Here I go again one more time - chemo again

Hi all,

well its been a fun few weeks for me so far. Getting on with treatment nicely although PSA was on rise but scans showed no spread in bones etc and told there was no need to be concerned. Had great summer holiday in Portugal and Paris, returned to work and had usual scans. Headed off to a lovely Scottish isle with my girls and did some rock climbing, bodyboarding and walking. Got a call from consultant day before we were due to come back and order me to the Hospital for an emergency MRI scan. Turned out I had a cracked and compressed spine bone. I had hurt over a few weeks but I just kept taking the red wine! Anyhow's it picked up more spread in the bones and will be starting chemo decetaxal 6-10 cycles next week.

I felt I got though the first round of chemo nicely with just about zero side affects to talk about 3 years ago. I was just wondering about anyones experience  on chemo the second time around? Is it the same or did people find it a harder treatment the second time around. I know it will be different as I lost my cousin and Aunt recently when they had their second round. I know its not the same (Breast & Bowel) but its hard to get out of my head.

Any advise appreciated

Steven

Steven,

Sorry to hear your news.

I have now just completed my 20th cycle of Docetaxel over 3 sessions of 2 x 8 cycles and the final session of 4 cycles.

Although I have stood up to the cycles pretty well and the results have been good, the final 4 cycles were the worst and made me more tired than any of the other cycles.

I am pleased that I am moving on to Aberateron early next month with a well earned break from the Chemo, although my Onco says we can always return to it.

Best Wishes

Dave

People that have tolerated it well the first time seem to tolerate it quite well the second time.

Sorry that the news wasn't better but in a way, pleased that you were blissfully unaware and therefore able to enjoy the holidays.

Hi Steven,

Coincidentally I was at oncologist today and have been taken of bicalutamide As psa has been creeping up for 7 months or so. New scans requested and back in two months for review. 2nd round of chemo has been discussed as well as going onto enzo's.

Was on looking for similar as pretty much sailed through first lot of chemo unscathed.  Was also concerned that this next round was going to hit me like a juggernaut! So we will see how this pans out.

Good luck with the chemo when the time comes

Steve

Thanks Steve,

I biculatumide for about three months but it wasnt working with hot spots in bones and rising PSA. At the next consultation, with my new consultant, who i know have great faith put me enzo to which that lasted over twelve months.

Have my first chemo and there seemed to be some wee changes to it which made treatment last 45 less ( because i used the cool cap). Think ive been a wee bit gallus this time as i feel abit rougher already. That maybe cause i did a bit of work today along with gardening. OH ferious, so its time to listen to my body!

Good luck with your treatment too and ill keep an eye on your posts to compare notes!

Steven
