Effectiveness of Cialis

Hi

Having had my prostrate removed August 2017 via nerve sparing procedure, my PSA has been slowly rising from 0.06 to 1.10 a couple of weeks ago. The specialist asked if I was managing any erections and I said no, so he prescribed a daily dose of 5mg Cialis. Its now been two weeks where I have taken the tablet roughly at the same time every day but so far there have been no positive results. I was therefore wondering if there was a timescale before there was any positive effect?

Cheers

Hi , click my picture and read my profile. Depends on whether you had nerve sparing as you need them for Cialis to work. My psa went up rapidly too and I’ve rejected RT four times as they said it wouldn’t be curative. I am 3 1:2 yrs post op and have been on daily Cialis 2 yrs. I am now getting perfect but shorter in length erections on demand and enjoying my life while I can before treatment has to restart. It’s essential you use a pump also to keep him healthy. Don’t give up , it may happen. I take it at bedtime to minimise side effects

Sorry , rambling , so yes it may take up to a year before it totally works.

Hi Telboy, Cialis is not prescribed to give erections at this stage. As the nerves have been damaged, or just stunned if nerve sparing was performed, no erection can naturally be achieved for some time, maybe a couple of years. The cialis is supposed to be a replacement for the night time erections during sleep, remember them. These need the nerves to be intact so the Cialis provides an increased blood supply to that region in order to keep the muscle interested as it were. I had nerve sparing on one side four years ago, but alas only minimal erection has returned. It is important to keep using the pump so the muscle maintains flexibility, but in my case I think it makes my incontinence worse as I am still needing to wear one pad per day. Regarding PSA, mine was 0.6 after surgery and slowly rose to 0.2 after two years. I was then offered salvage RT and took it. Three months after the RT my PSA was undetectable and still is, hopefully. I go to see my surgeon next week to find out if this is still the case. See my profile for more info.

I agree with that. John's ED nurse was clear that daily cialis was to aid nerve repair (they get burnt as well as battered and bruised). He took the daily cialis for over three years, and either a Levitra, cigars or caverject injection for an 'event'.

A very small number of men can regain erections quickly - one man on here claimed his erections were back at normal strength and size just a couple of days after his op, but this is exceptionally rare I think.

Hi Tel Boy,

I am taking 5mg cialis since surgery. I started taking it 3 days after surgery and for SOS a dose of 20 mgs but this SOS pill cannot be more than a 1 per week. I had surgery 5 months ago and my nerves on the right sde spared.

I have experienced improvements in the erection part. After 1 months of surgery I had a slight progression and it stayed almost unchanged for 2 months. A month ago I sensed something better again. So it is still not as before the surgery, but I can get hard erections already but they don't last too long yet. I guess this is as the others have said already and this is a long process. I expect this to get better still and I am happy I am sensing small steps in thsi respect. Most improtant also is that we have to learn how to cope and live with our new reality and sex can be as pleasured as before. At least for me it has been fairly good.

All the best to you,

Paulo

Good morning TelBoy,

It's early days for Cialis to have effect. And as said above, daily 5mg Cialis is to increase blood flow.

What else are you doing, or have you been doing to encourage blood flow around the area?

As I understand it, Cialis may or may not work for everyone, as some different brands may or may not work for everyone.

One way you may be able to check if Cialis is working for you, is to monitor your nail growth? Are your finger nails growing unusually well? This can be a sign of good circulation, due to the Cilais?

Do you have any of the more common side effects, leg ache and head ache? If you do, it is probably having an effect, and those SE's usually fade after a few weeks or so. Worth keeping taking the tablets as the results will probably be worth it, using pain killers to alleviate the pain.

Have you been using a pump? Have you been exercising the area? Keep at it, and I hope it works out well for you.
