Hi,

Has anyone had a PSA of 130 and not been advanced?

The specialist nurse told me yesterday PCA doesn't indicate how far it is but reading posts it seems everyone with a high PCA are stage 4?

A good story there on Yana. Even the experts get it wrong sometimes showing how unpredictable this disease can be.

My PSA,was only 5.5,but I have locally advanced prostrate cancer,so it doesnt seem to indicate how bad your cancer,is,my gleason level was 9

Gemma. You are wrong to make that assumption. Neither is the reverse true, that all stage 4 cases have a high PSA reading.

Hi AC,

Sorry what assumption?

I don't mean to upset anyone, just not coping and worried so much about high PSA and what that means

Gemma, please try not to get too hyped about PSA although that reading is quite high. That said, the only definitive way of telling is a biopsy of the gland itself.

best wishes

PSA is not definitive for anything apart from PSA level.

Increasing PSA is an indicator of increasing risk but it is never diagnostic of cancer.

it is never diagnostic of cancer.

It is sometimes. In some regions a man could be diagnosed without being put through the risks of biopsy if the PSA was very high, the MRI was indicative and the bone scan lit up like Blackpool illuminations. It is more likely to come about because the man has presented at a hospital with symptoms - say with a broken hip or complete urinary retention - rather than through the common route of GP, DRE, PSA, referral.
