Increasing psa level after RARP

User

I had my prostate removed by RARP in October 2017 and my PSA level post op was 0.003. Tested again in this January and PSA level now 0.007. Is this increase normal? How can it increase if prostate removed completely? I had surrounding tissue and a lymph node removed at the time of the op and there was no sign that the cancer has spread.

Any comments wpould be greatly appreciated.

Many hospitals do not test below 0.1 so <0.1 is classed as undetectable. Even the top cancer hospital in Britain, The Royal Marsden, only tests down to 0.04.

Consultants I have spoken to consider super-sensitive assay tests to umpteen decimal points such as you have had to be more trouble than they are worth, and Matron Kierkegaard here reports that women can have PSA levels of 0.6!

Women on average have a PSA level of 0.002.

So keep calm and carry on being cancer free!

Cheers, John.
