Hormone treatment depression

since starting 3 monthly hormone treatment I'm finding it difficult to deal with the side effects.

I've completed Radiotherapy 6 weeks ago and feeling no better. I'm due a review this week coming and although I've been told I may have to stay on the Hormones for 12-18 months.

My PSA was under 1 at the end of my radiotherapy and I would like to know is it possible to stop Hormones and perhaps just watch PSA levels.

The fatigue and depression I'm experiencing is bringing me down.

Any answers appreciated

thanks

You certainly can stop HT early, although at a slightly increased risk of cancer recurrence. A number of men on here have done just that - as you say, quality of life is an important consideration. Another option would be to switch to an HT drug such as bicalutimide, which blocks the reception of testosterone rather than its production; I’ve been on bicalutimide for 8 months now and have minimal side-effects.

Have a chat with your oncologist at your review meeting and discuss the options. The oncologist will make recommendations, but the choice to accept them or not is yours.

All the best,

Chris
