Loss of flow

Hi,

I had an RP at the end of January and have had no continence issues until a few weeks ago. I suddenly developed a need to go to the loo every hour, sometimes every half hour. I have lost my stream and seem to just dribble. I'm up 5-6 times a night. I have also had a UTI which seems to be lingering.

My GP has referred me back to my Consultant but I was wondering if anyone else has suffered with sudden urges to urinate.

Thanks

Peter

Good advice from the nurse on what to do if the flow stops, retention is not a pleasant experience and the longer it goes on the anxiety can make matters worse.

The auto correct has changed flip flo to flip flop. Basically the flip flo is a tap or valve that normally goes on the end of the catheter. I have a flip flo between my catheter and leg bag in an attempt to keep the bladder active, if I have the urge to urinate it comes out almost immediately. Some guys have a flip flo to empty the bladder, when they get the urge to urinate they go to the WC and just open the tap to release the urine. Foley was the guy who originally designed the catheter.

Added, being in retention can have an adverse effect on the kidneys, our bodies are designed to expell urine when the bladder gets full.

Thanks Chris

Thanks Andew, I probably don't drink enough water, but I have cut back on my coffee intake. I'll try harder today.

Sounds like the result of a water infection, but there are quite a few of us on here who developed a urethral stricture. Not voiding properly can may be creating the infection. Do you have a urology support nurse who may get you back to the consultant quicker.

Thanks Chris

Hello, similar circumstances to me, up three times night to urinate,  I had Robotic surgery & RT, urine flow slowed up with just a dribble. I had to strain to urinate, my Consultant prompted emergency surgery to look to see what was happening. Only the other day I  had a Cystoscopy & fitted with Foley flip-flop because of a Stricture in urethra caused by surgery or RT, next week  it will be removed & a self catheter procedure will begin.

Make contact with your specialist nurse for more assistance, good luck.

Thanks Chris,

I have spoken to the nurse but she was not very helpful, suggested that if the flow stooped I should go to A&E.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks,

What is a Foley Flip-Flop?

Has it sorted you out?

I have spoken to the specialist nurse and the nurse at my GP practice, both of whom were not a great deal of help. At the GP surgery she ruled out an infection and that was it. The Dr has reffered me to the Consultant but the was 2 weeks ago.

I don't want to just rock up at A&E because I know how busy they are.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks again.
