Bose,

You need to ask his doctors or diabetes specialist.

If you want to ask about it on a forum, then it needs to be a diabetes forum. There are unlikely to be enough diabetes experts here to answer and have their answers peer viewed by other members for any errors/omissions.

There is no diabetes forum here - this is a prostate cancer support forum. not a diabetes forum. Do a Google search!

Best wishes,

Chris

Bose.  Why don't you ask your father's doctors? There could be numerous reasons from lying in bed awkwardly to Mets. He needs to be examined by a doctor. We cannot guess on here.

You mentioned that your father is on a bisphosphonate (Zoldonat). This is to counteract bone loss - it reduces the rate at which the body dissolves out bone calcium to replace it, because the body's replacing of bone calcium is slowed down by hormone therapy. He might need to be on Vitamin D too (I'm not sure, check with doctor if he isn't). Given that he has mets, taking extra calcium can be dangerous (mets release calcium from the bone into the blood, and taking extra may overdose), but check with doctor - might be OK if his calcium levels are being regularly tested and/or his mets are not releasing significant calcium.

There is always the possibility that he has a new met in his shoulder - depends how long ago that was checked.

It’s also possible that something is pressing on nerves from upper spine, which is causing referred pain to his shoulder.

High Bose we really can't diagnose on this forum, it's just for sharing personal experience and advice.

So my advice: Bone pain that is worse at night is a classic symptom of bone mets. No pain is "normal". You need to ask your oncologist if the Pain is a result of mets, if it is ask what treatment he can have.

Bose - if he has a met in his spine at the place where nerves go to his shoulder, it can cause pain that seems to be coming from the shoulder . I had something similar in my leg, and it was treated successfully by radiotherapy. To investigate this they would need to do scans. You should ask his oncologist. Good luck!

Dear Dark Warrior,

Thanks for your reply.

Actually we are going for second opinion. When my father diagnosed psa was 645 (14 th march 2018) there is lot of back pain. Cancer cell are spread in spine that press nerves and cause pain after radiation psa goes down to 151 and pain was gone after 6 cycle of chemo psa down to 0.02 after scan (28 august 2018) it shows that decease was stable . But there is lot of side effect of chemo my father is unable to walk because of nerves damage and barely walk just like kids after 6 month he was managed to walk in baby steps but now shoulder pain we are totally fed up can my father spend his normal life without pain a good quality of life . Shoulder pain is side effect of radiation also ????????

Regards,

Bose
