Result of MRI scan

I recently had a MRI scan and the result was "MRI prostate showing area of restricted diffusion in the peripheral zone bilaterally near the apex" does anybody know what that means?

I have since had a template biopsy and I am waiting the results, but I was advised that the results would take 4 weeks and it has only been 2 weeks since the biopsy.

Does your MRI report have a PIRAD score.  I had a PIRAD score of 5, meaning that clinically significant cancer was highly likely to be found upon biopsy.  It was.  I don't know what the sentence you quote means.

Phone one of the specialist nurses - they're brilliant and will be able to help.

I think it means that some kind of lesion showed up on the MRI, and that’s why you had the biopsy taken to see if it’s benign or not.

Did you have a raised PSA or any urinary symptoms?

Unfortunately there is a lot of waiting and ‘What ifs?’ with prostate cancer. Let’s hope you haven’t got it!

Best of luck.

Cheers, John.

Thanks for the replies,I haven't got a PIRAD score, I have a raised PSA and have been having 6 monthly PSA tests:

24/02/2016 11.5

07/10/2016 6.9

07/04/2017 6.7

13/10/2017 6.1

20/04/2018 7.5

30/11/2018 6.4

01/05/2019 8.4

I think it’s unfortunate you didn’t have more intensive investigations two or three years ago.

Let’s hope it all pans out for the best in the end🤞

Best of luck.

Cheers, John.

John, I did I deicde that it was time for a PSA test when my father was diagnosed with secondary prostate cancer in 2016 and was surprised when the result was 11.5 as I was 62 and had no symptoms. A DRE didn't show anything I had a MRI that was clear and a template biopppsy that was also clear. I then attended the PSA clinic with 6 monthly tests and my PSA was going down until March 2018 when it jumped up, I had another DRE (normal) and a MRI scan in May 2018 that was clear. On my next visit to the PSA clinic it had dropped and I was discharged from the PSA clinic with my GP to do 6 monthly PSA for the next two years, but when I had my next PSA test in had jumped from 6.4 to 8.4, another DRE (normal) MRI (resulting in my post above) and a template biopsy for which I am waiting results

Thanks

Terry

I spoke to the Urology nurse today and shhe said that my biopsy wwas clear, which was a great relief as my youngest daughter gets married a week tomorrow.

Now need to try and find out why my PSA is high.

Your PSA is wandering all over the place, which is not typical of untreated PCa, but possibly some varying level of infection. With untreated PCa, it tends to always increase.

PCa could be contributing to a part of the figure, so you can't rule it out on this basis either, but there's probably something else contributing to figures. Did you refrain from ejaculating, or riding a bicycle or horse, or strenuous exercise in the days before the tests, and not have a digital rectal exam (DRE) or biopsy before the tests? These can all cause a high reading.

The PSA of a friend of mine has varied rather like yours and he had MRI's and Biopsy. It was finally decided he had PIN and this was over 6 years ago. PIN is a sort of precancerous state that may or may not develop into cancer. He has had no treatment and so far has been lucky. So there's another possibility.
