Chronic prostatitis ( found !!! )

Hi forum

I don’t want to over complicate and bore people, so i will try and explain this as quickly as possible. ( and also writing isn’t my strongest attribute ðŸ˜‚)

Basically about 16 months ago I started to pee a lot (20-30 times a day )

what did I do ?

* went to g.p who did the obvious thing of testing urine.... this showed a very slight trace of an infection. ( antibiotics used ) 3-5 weeks no improvement

This is were things got slightly more complex

The peeing continued to be very serious, testicals started to hurt, penis became very very sore, bottom, lower back etc... things were getting rather bad at this point, 8-12 weeks in, constant no sleep, a young family long hours at work started to add up.

Next steps..... I will do in bullet points to speed this up

Multiple hospital visits

* sleeping tablets

* pain tablets

* STD tests ( negative)

* blood tests 5-10 times

* urinalysis 5-10 times ( negative )

* stopped playing sports, football cycling etc

This continued on and off over the following months.

3 private urologists £250 a time

I went private to have an cystoscopy

nerve blocking injections

Nutrition based diet

herbal tablets from China

The costs continued, every time I saw a gp or nurse I was told this was all in my head.

13-14 months passed.....

My mental state was very very fragile, snappy at work and at home.

I have to be honest, I reached breaking point on several occasions.... I think it’s hard for men to talk about but...... thoughts started to get in my head about ending it all and at one point i came close, if it wasn’t for the thought of my two young girls not knowing there dad it might of happened.

So I decided to try and keep fighting on with the help of my family.

I started to read more and more into the symptoms, and did that awful thing that you shouldn’t do and self diagnosed myself from google.... this seemed like a long shot,

But to be honest everyone else had given up so I had limited options.

I found a clinic in London which specialises in Prostate related issues, and booked in ASAP.

On my first visit, they did the following.

  • full urinalysis sent away to lab
  • Blood tests
  • Prostatic fluid culture

1 week later I finally had the answer that he taken 16 months out of my life....

A diagnosis of chronic bacterial prostatitis!!!

They found a bug called Staphylococcus aureus

I couldn’t tell you the relief I felt that something had been found,

Apparently this bug lives harmlessly on the outside of the body, but when it get in causes all sorts of problems.

Not one person or any test had picked this up..

My treatment plan, antibiotics, shockwave treatment and muscle relaxers.

8 weeks later and as I write this message I am 95% pain free and peeing a normal 4-7 times a day,

The battle is not yet over as I am still on antibiotics for another infection, but there seems to be hope.

Why have I wrote this? I suppose to try and give others hope and belief you may one day get the answer you are looking for.

This is a horrible horrible illness to have I would not wish it on my worst enemy,

It has nearly broke me mentally and financially

But I’m still here ðŸ¤›

Very unfortunate you had to go to such lengths and suffer for so long but perseverance has paid off. Also, you have not been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer which must be a relief!

Hello Callum and everyone else/
I have Chronic Prostatitis and with all the side effects plus more that Callum had.
I Googled "why dos my anus burn when I have a pee", this resulted with a hit on the NHS website for Prostatitis.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/prostatitis/ I emailed with a screen print my oncology nurse saying "I get all of these", she forwarded to Urology Consultant.

The Consultant rang me and said she didn't think it was but she will prescribe some heavy duty antibiotics but I have to be aware there is a risk of tendonitis. She added she didn't think it was but it will serve to rule it out. If it is prostatitis it is difficult to treat and only a course of at least a month will help. She also added it doesn't show an infection in your urine.

I was prescribed ciprofloxacin 500mg for a month. Within days the retention went, with a couple of weeks the burning went. I stayed on them for a month and everything I was suffering went. Unfortunately my symptoms started to return a couple of weeks ago, I got back in touch with Urology Consultant and am now back on the antibiotics for six weeks and have no symptoms again after two weeks.

She now calls my problem Chronic Prostatitis and is happy that is what it is as the antibiotics clear it up. As I said she hadn't considered it and and was only to rule it out she went for it. Well it worked for me

Hi these posts have been very enlightening.  My husband has what he thought was a urine infection and had two different courses of antibiotics which didn’t do anything.   The culture sent off did not reveal any e-coli.

Doctor has now prescribed Ciprofloaxin and he is on day 3.   I am praying this one will work as he is in a lot of pain when he urinates and also when he sits down plus when he stands urine just leaks out constantly.

He had a rigid cystoscopy about 5 weeks ago and I hope that didn’t damage his urethra.  It is all getting him down a bit although things could be worse.

He had a radical prostatectomy two years ago followed by 4 weeks radiotherapy.   There seems to be scarring in his bladder which thankfully is not cancer.

Really hoping the Cipro does the trick.  He has been given a course for 14 days although I read this may not be enough.  Would you advise he gets a further two weeks of tablets when this course runs out?

Thanks

One of our 3 resident consultant urologists at The FOPS support group at Chorleywood is one of very few specialists in prostatitis, and is often asked about it during our support group sessions. (The FOPS covers all male urological issues, not just prostate cancer.)

I had a meeting with the urologists last night and we're hoping to get The FOPS going again from 6th May over Zoom, which in theory will make it accessible to more people than just those within driving distance of Chorleywood, but the event isn't advertised yet.

I am in the same boat and have just gone on Cipro 5 days ago after months of Doxycline.  I am really hoping this sorts it. How quickly did you start to see results from the Cipro?

I know this is an old thread, but I can't PM yet, I was wondering what that Clinic in London was?

If I don't get far with my GP, I don't mind paying for my health, if speed up diagnosis / recovery.

Thanks

Thank you for this information.

I have just been diagnosed with chronic prostatitis through a MRI of the prostate.

I have also got erectile dysfunction which I think is linked to this.

Aged early 50's fit and healthy.

Has anyone else expected erectile dysfunction ?
