It’s all ups and downs

Hi all and Happy New Year. I found this forum a couple of weeks ago and have taken a lot of inspiration from everyone's comments.

My own story so far may help.

I had my RRP on October 10, all went well, clips removed after 10 days, then catheter removed after 15 days. I was walking 3-5 miles per day at this stage.

Then things fell apart a bit. Symptoms typical of a UTI began so antibiotics galore for around a month, on and off. One day the pain was so severe, level 8/10, I ended up in Urgent Care at local hospital. Subsequent detailed tests on urine showed NO infection plus other positive things! So, what the heck!

At this point I took matters into my own hands and booked a private appointment at a private hospital, within 3 days had a cystoscopy which showed a loose staple/clip lodged inside the bottom of my bladder, which was removed. The consultant gave me Amitriptyline low dose for nerve pain. That was about 4 weeks ago and slowly but surely ALL pain has vanished. I still get slight discomfort when I urinate but it vanishes quickly. Three weeks ago I had a PSA and follow up meeting, PSA undetectable and negative margins. Now on a 3 monthly PSA and telephone follow up.

I hope my tale helps folks here, I know I'm not out of the woods yet but having positive steps helps enormously. If there's any message from me it's to stay positive and "fight your corner" if you think something isn't quite right. A private consultation may be quick but it's not cheap, if you have the dosh ....... your health and comfort is worth more that the dosh itself.

Lastly, meditation has also helped me enormously, not a religious thing, something I did pick up from my Buddhist wife though and our family trips to Nepal.

I would guess that it was a "hem o lok" clip floating in your bladder rather than a staple, you may well have another half dozen floating around inside. Your post op symptoms were very similar to mine, I have had 3 such clips removed. There are a handful of us on here that have had the same issues. Watch out for future water infections and slow flow.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks Chris

Hi Chris, certainly at that time there were no others floating around. The consultant was very thorough and he made me watch all on the big screen! Cheers

Sorry , I did not explain properly, the clips are used to clamp blood vessels etc inside the abdominal cavity there can be few. Supposedly in 1 in 500 cases they migrate into the bladder or through the joint in the Urethra. There could be others in the abdomin and they should just settle in a corner. Hope you don't get any more migrations.

Thanks Chris.
