Lymphedema in groin

User

Has anyone experienced Lymphedema in the groin after prostate surgery including lymph node dissection.  I am desperate to seek advice on how best to deal with this before it spreads to my legs.  Thank you for any advice that can be shared

Contact your clinical nurse specialist (Macmillan nurse). They will refer you to their Lymphedema clinic.

It depends on how long ago your surgery was, and sometimes, where you live.

If you have been allocated a urology nurse you could give him / her a call but in many areas, it will be your GP who needs to make the referral to the lymphodema clinic (if this exists in your region). If there is no lymphodema clinic in your area and you don't have an allocated nurse, you should discuss your concerns at your next appointment with the surgeon.

Mushy,

I know its been quite awhile since you expressed concern over your lymphedema, but was wondering how it turned out since then if you would not mind sharing. How many nodes were removed? I have surgery next month and the Surgeon plans node dissection. I am having the concern over the side effect of lymphedema as there appears no way to reverse it and it must then be managed the rest of the time with compression stockings, therapy and night wrappings. There does not seem to be a lot of posting regarding this side effect.

The last time Mushy logged in was 40 minutes after posting that in 2020, so he's unlikely to notice your post.

Andy,

Thanks for the status regarding whether Mushy might see the post. He seemed to be the only post with prostate lymphedema mentioned so that could be a good sign, although I saw some published report seeming to indicate up to 20 percent of patients do encounter it when multiple nodes are removed.
Thanks
