Dear team,

 

I nilesh from india.

 

My father is suffering from advanced Prostate cancer, need to know whom should i concern? Who is the best doctor?should i refer urology or oncology for treatment?

It varies from nation to nation but if he was in the UK, he would be referred to an oncologist for treatment and may also be under the care of a urologist for general quality of life / urinary health.

Hi Nilesh, 

In the UK diagnosis usually starts with a Urologist who then agrees treatment with a group of specialists.  Options can be surgery or radiotherapy with hormones or just hormones.

Hormones/chemotherapy are usually a regular treatment under an oncologist.  

For advanced Prostate Cancer it would usually be an oncologist who will agree treatment which could be hormones/chemotherapy or hormones with radiotherapy.

But keep in mind that in India, orchiectomy (removal of the testicles) is much more common than in the UK and would be done by a surgeon.
