What is it??

Hi all,

I am a 48 year old male and approximately 6-7 weeks ago I came back from the gym.  I went for a pee (chose to sit down when doing so) and this is kind of where things started..

I felt what can only be likened to a small burst / internal weeing sensation behind my testicles.   It lasted only a second or so, but I felt no other symptoms until a few days later.

Those symptoms are either a very strong "stinging" sensation in my perenium which comes and goes in severity and really gets me down and also what feels like a localised prodding around my anus.    Again, this comes and goes.

--

I went to the doctors who put me on a course of ciprofloxacin for two weeks and that seemed to help a little, but after the dosage ended - a few days later, the symptoms returned.  I then took another 2 week course.

At the end of this, the pain remained and does so to this day.  It is like a constant stinging and varies in degrees of severity.

I was referred to a specialist and had an MRI and for the purpose of this thread was given a pi rad of 3 - they noticed (in their own words) that the top left very edge of my prostate was slightly darker and that they truthfully did not know if anything was there, but it didn't show any particular signs of being greatly enlarged etc.

I'd had a physical rectal examination (nothing found) and the MRI otherwise was perfectly fine, nothing seen.

--

Because of the pi rad score, they thought it best to have a biopsy which I did 7 days ago and I will get the results later this week (Thursday).

My PSA level is 1.29 and I have not other "telling" symptoms - (e.g. before the biopsy) no blood, no urge to wee and then not being able to etc.  Everything was and is returning to normal.  The only reason that I went down this route was me reporting the original stinging sensation.

Post biopsy I am getting better, weeing and the other is fine. For those going to have a biopsy, the only uncomfortable bit for me was the probe (only slightly) I had no pain when they actually took the samples. I do get very dark semen but I have been reassured this is normal. Having a wee (very, very light blood) and a poo (perfectly fine).

--

I still have this intense stinging / burning sensation as said, and I was wondering if anyone else had ever encountered these specific symptoms?  They have taken 2 urine samples and the first has come back clear.  I am waiting on the second.

Both the consultant and radiologist stated that the original issue I reported at the top of this thread was NOT related, but in my own mind, I would not have gone down this road if that hadn't have happened.  The radiologist stated that he felt this was a severe case of Prostatitis.

Anyway, I appreciate the opportunity to share my current story and welcome any feedback or advice.

Your original issue sounds very much like a urinary tract infection. They can be very slow to clear up, unfortunately.

Best of luck for your biopsy results. With a PSA of 1, I don't think you have too much to worry about there!

Best wishes,

Chris

Hi Chris.  Thanks for that..

The weird thing is I have had a UTI before and that stung when I went for a wee.

Currently, I don't have that issue at all and I am not weeing erratically or do I have issues weeing (eg too often).

Can a UTI still produce the symptoms I am describing..  and take months to go? At this very I am lying down and my perennial area especially just at the bottom of my testicles is stinging / burning.

Again, thank you so much for any feedback and advice.

UTIs can take all sorts of different forms. A year or so ago I had epididymitis - an infection in the tube that connects the testicles to the prostate. No problems peeing, just a constant dull ache in my groin. Very unpleasant and took ages to clear up. UTIs can cause all sorts of different aches and pains.

Best wishes,

Chris

Thanks for the advice.  As said, I get the results on Thursday and will go from there.

Cheers.

Hi, Just wanted to give a personal update and say that I got my biopsy results today and they were all clear (they had taken 12 samples and all came back negative). The feeling of relief was immeasurable and I will openly admit to shedding a few tears.

That said, I still have the symptoms described and the consultant said that I need to rest, take vigorous exercise (running, cycling) out of the equation and in his own words "take more care of myself over the next few months.

Chris, thanks for replying, even though it was just a single reply and I have no idea who you are, it meant a lot and it is nice to know that people are "listening" and that no-one is alone through any part of this.

Thanks.

Delighted to hear that you had the all-clear, and I hope your original problem clears up soon.

Best wishes,

Chris

Hi,  I've had what feels like cramp in that area a couple of times, quite painful when it happens and it seems almost as if my body is confused about what it's meant to do, which might sound a bit strange.  It goes pretty quickly though.

On the other hand my biggest suspicion is going to the gym has something to do with it.   I don't know how strenuously you exercise but I used to overdo it causing all sorts of strains and pains.  I only really realised how much when I got a Polar Exercise Watch and sometimes when I downloaded the data it read I'd gone into the 'very strained' zone which is way above balanced exercise.  Nowadays I don't set things at the high levels.

Hi Peter,

I think that I was definitely overdoing it on the intensity side.  I would (being impatient) set the treadmill speed pretty high and hammer it out / running uphill etc...  as mentioned in my original post this all came about because of the feeling that something split / burst.

I am still experiencing the feelings mentioned, sometimes a stinging / pressure round the anus, sometimes a stinging at the base of the testicles, but I am very thankful to know now that it is nothing sinister or serious.

The consultant stated that (I think you mentioned it) the nerves in that area tend to relate to deferred pain.. e.g. a pain there doesn't necessarily mean that there is a problem in that region.

The bottom line is that he said (post biopsy) take things easy and let your body heal over the coming months.

I think I will just need to manage it with pain killers.

Thank you.
