What does your Doctor say about your symptoms?

Are you 90 years old as in your post or 64 years old as in your profile?

Cheers, John.

Nowhere near enough info to usefully comment.

What was the diagnosis, and when, and what's happened in between?

Many 90 years olds without prostate cancer have the symptoms you listed.
Pain passing water could be an infection which needs treating.

Yes, you need to engage his doctor.

Hi Daycare,
you would need to know a couple of things like:

a) is he having any treatment (perhaps daily hormone tablets or an injection every month / 3 months) or has he had his testicles surgically removed?

b) does he have a blood test regularly (perhaps every 3 or 6 months) to measure his PSA, either at his GP practice or at the hospital?

If he has a regular PSA test (and he or someone else is actually phoning to get the results) then that is how he is being monitored; generally speaking, if his PSA is rising then the cancer is active and progressing whereas if his PSA is stable, his cancer is being controlled.

As stated above, burning during urination is not a symptom of prostate cancer so he needs to be checked for a urine infection. Oedema can be caused by the cancer affecting his lymph nodes but is also a symptom of circulatory problems and heart failure so definitely needs flagging to the GP. If you are his carer, perhaps you could attend the appointment and ask the above questions while you are there.
