Oldmech

This depends on your body. It can be as little as an hour, perhaps less with the covid situation, it can take four hours.

Make sure you are well hydrated on the day, drink water before you get there. Listen to the person looking after you and take thier advice.

At my first TWOC I had too do three samples of around 100ml, later they dropped it to two. It will vary between hospitals.

I took some pads with me. I also had a towel and water proof cover for the car seat in case of accidents and there was but fortunately contained in the pad.

Above all relax, I have around 12 TWOCs and never failed.

Thanks Chris

Time can vary. I had to empty my bladder 3 times and they check to make sure you are fully voided at the end. Think I was there about 2 hours but I have heard it can take quite a bit longer.

Take some pads. You might not need them but I found I was quite leaky to begin with.

Its so nice to get rid of that catheter

Hi oldmech, I see it is your first post so welcome.

I had a catheter and hence a TWOC, mine was done at home by district nurse. She removed catheter I was told to drink a reasonable amount. She left with a promise to return in four hours.

She returned and I had not and could not pee. She then showed me how to use disposable catheters and problem was solved. So they will want you to drink and for it to flush through you, which means a few hours for the whole procedure.

My husband had his catheter removed just over 2wks ago (he was day 8 post op). The actual removal takes seconds. We were then sent away to cafe area and told to return to the clinic area for a bladder scan once he had voided urine. We met another two couples who’d had surgery at same time and it was nice to chat......”have you been yet”❗️

We were expecting to be there most of the day as thought 2-3 scans would be required but they only done one post void scan and husband was discharged. Nurse gave him a goody bag home with pads but take your own with change of underwear and trousers just incase.

Good luck 👍🏼

Mine went something like this. 8am start.

Got up at five-fifty for TWoC
Had a tube taken out of my cock
Three times did I piss
Tried quite hard not to miss
Was back home again by 12 o'clock

They removed the catheter, I put on a pad, then they let me loose in the 'day room' with a large jug of water and three collection vessels, which I was to pee into when I needed to.

Each time, the output was inspected and quantity measured (quantity increased each time).

After the third voiding they did an ultrasound bladder scan to check if the bladder was sufficiently empty.
Overall it took about 3 hours. Once satisfied, they kicked me out. 😃

My TWOC was 6 weeks ago and the process was:

Enure fully hydrated day before

Arrive at 08.30 at hospital for appointment. Urology department was super busy

Attended to at 10.00 - nurse explained what she was going to do. I was dreading the removal but it was OK with a few drops of blood.

Given a pad to wear and a piece of paper to record amount I drank plus a container for the urine.

Spent 1 hour reading my magazine and having some water until I needed to go. Urinated into the container and handed over. Container was checked (some blood as expected).

Nurse scanned my bladder to make sure that it was empty. All good and I was given some literature to read and all done.

Journey home was via taxi so I had a waterproof cover for the seat but no accidents en-route.

Some minor blood in urine for maybe 2 days after TWOC.

I have been very fortunate in that my continence has been good (8 weeks after op now and no pads at all). This was my biggest fear about the op.

Hope TWOC goes well and above detail will help reassure you.

I was worried about the removal so told the nurse I would do it myself under her supervision. That way you have complete control. She agreed and it was easy and painless. She just deflated the balloon first.

Good luck

Cheers
