Worried about ongoing symptoms

Hello, about 5 weeks ago I had a sudden urge to urinate frequently, I was prescribed trimethoprim and this seemed to have cleared up this symptom, although it left me with a stinging sensation at the tip of the penis.

fast forward 5 weeks and having been prescribed more trimethoprim and doxycycline, I have now been prescribed ciprofloxacin (hope that’s spelled correctly) after feeling like a golf ball was up my bum when sitting down.

I have to see GP this Thursday for an examination and blood tests.

Any advice and help very welcome!!!

Thank you

Have you had a urine culture test?

Really, you should have your urine cultured to find what the bacteria is, and which antibiotic it's sensitive to. It takes about 3 days from supplying a urine sample to having the test result, before that can know which antibiotic to use. Randomly trying different antibiotics is not the way to treat a UTI.

You might have prostatitis. Pain in the prostate often gets referred somewhere else, tip of the penis and/or testicles, because your brain doesn't recognise the prostate as a source of pain. Prostatitis can be hard to treat, and your GP is unlikely to do so successfully. You will probably need referring to a urologist, and even then, it's difficult to find urologists that are specialists in prostatitis.

Hi Andy, Thanks for your reply.

I have submitted one urine sample and there was nothing detected with this.

also had negative tests for std’s!

The way things are with COVID at the moment they are reluctant to see anyone at the surgery, hence why they have been throwing antibiotics at me.

Hoping my visit this Thursday gives me an indication of what this is

You might want to come along to the urology Q&A at The FOPS on Wednesday evening. One of our urologists answering the questions is a specialist in prostatitis. Details are on the end of my profile.
