Nocturia and Ibuprofen

User

I have had nocturia for some years, 2 or 3 times a night and sometimes 4.

Having a headache following a major red wine event, I took two Ibuprofen before I went to sleep. When I woke up at about 6.00 am I realised I had gone from 11.30pm until waking without a pee!

That is remarkable for me, so I have repeated the Ibuprofen several times with the same results.

A bit of research indicates that this is a known effect but more research is needed.

Might help someone?

John

I was on Febuxostat until about 6 months ago and after consulting with my GP that was changed to Allopurinol, I read that Febuxostat can have some side effects relating to the heart. Anyhow, again after consulting my GP I have stopped taking any drug for gout apart from having a stock of Colchicine and Prednisolone Corticosteriod. I now manage my gout by avoiding things that trigger it.

I still have a prostate I suppose, it more of a shrivelled prune than a walnut though :-)

The Colchicine works as a quick action relief medication, made from crocus or something it is a poison but stops the gout pain pretty quickly, it is only taken for a short period of maybe a day or so. The corticosteroid ( Prednisolone) is taken as a course of however many, I try to take as few as possible, one or two a day for a couple of days but your GP will advise. They somehow suppress the gout and give longer term relief.

OK on your big toe, I get it mostly in my foot bones but sometimes in my big toe.

Sparrow,

Do you take allopurinol for your gout ? There are some interesting links to PSA , more I think for guys with a Prostate.

Thanks Chris

John

Thanks for the info, allopurinol keeps my gout at bay very well, I only get it in my big toe. How effective are the alternative Meds, how quickly do they work ?  I will discuss with my GP before next repeat prescription.

Thanks Chris
