Fluctuating PSA 3yrs after RT

Hi all

My OH had EBRT 3.5 years ago, and has just had the results of his latest PSA test. The numbers have gone up and down wildly over the last few readings - just wondering if anyone else here has had a similar experience or any perspective to offer? His consultant appointment has been postponed (until we don't know when) because of Covid. I guess there's nothing to do at the moment anyway, but I'm going a bit loopy trying to understand what might be going on!

Full history and all PSA readings on profile. As a shorter summary, since March 2019 his readings are:

06/03/19  -  1.2 (2 years after RT)

06/09/19  -  1.2

11/05/20  -  1.83  (damn)

28/05/20 -   1.68 (double-check of previous.... hmm, still high)

14/09/20 -   1.25 (wow)

29/12/20 - 1.72 (what is going on??)

No suggestion of urinary infections or prostatitis. Puzzled by the big swings up and down. Nadir was 0.15 in July 2017 (1 month after RT, but still on hormones at that point)

Any ideas?

Thanks!

As long as his PSA stays below 2.15 you are fine - he still has a prostate and healthy cells can regenerate & start producing 'healthy' PSA again.

And "what's going on?" might be sex. It affects your PSA.

It is most likel;y a psa bounce  - more likely the younger you are.

Occurs with radiotherapy / bracchy - often associated with better long term outcomes.
