Prendisolone?

Hello everyone, I hope you are all as well as you can be. If you could give your opinions on this,my latest scenario I would be grateful. So a couple of days ago I got a call regarding my recent PSMA scan . Surprisingly I have lymph node involvement outside) and in) the pelvic area. ( no specifics yet). I say surprisingly as my PSA has , for five years been fairly stable , reaching a mere 0.19 six months ago. However I have done a little research and I am now highly suspicious that the steroids ( prendisolone2mg) statutes by my rheumatologist  last October has lowered my lymphacytes so much my cancer had flourished. Secondly what are my treatment options and how effective are they!( my face to face is not for another three weeks). She did say however my chances of cure are around 10%. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give.... Andy

Prednisolone is very similar to predisone which is given to prostate cancer to reduce side effects and has been used on its own to help control hormone resistant prostate cancer. Your onco and rheumatologist will need to liaise with each other but I suspect they will be able to reassure you that it is not the prednisolone that has allowed your prostate cancer to spread - it might be possible that the drug has affected your PSA although you would need to ask the specialists.

I am assuming that you have not been started on any hormone treatment since last September when they first confirmed the recurrence?

Next steps re treatment will perhaps be affected by your other medical conditions but common options in these circumstances are chemo or enzalutimide with hormone injections and possibly, some radiotherapy to the prostate bed (but that will be less likely if you have spread to distant lymph nodes).

I can't see from your Profile or this thread what your original treatment was but assume it was a Prostatectomy. If this was the case and it was not augmented by RT, it may be possible to treat your Prostate Bed and a very few lymph nodes with RT. If this is not possible or too big an ask for RT, it's likely you will be offered systemic treatment as Lyn as suggested. RT may also be given with systemic treatment. Cancer cells can sometimes advance even with a low PSA. The PSA figure you gave is quite low to be picked up even with a PSMA scan. Sometimes cancer can pause or accelerate in a way that can even surprise consultants who have detailed histology including scans to consider because men can respond differently to treatment, so we are not able to say what your individual response will be. Even the side effects of treatment can be more severe for some men than others.

Do let us know what is decided and your response to further treatment.

Your opinion on my theory that the prendisolone lowered my lyphacytes  so much it allowed cancer to flourish?
