Doxcatel no longer working

Hi

I first posted here in 2013

https://community.prostatecanceruk.org/posts/t9372-New---dad-just-diagnosed

My dad has done amazingly well to get this far, 8 years on

He's been on his second cycle of doxcetel after it worked well first time two years earlier. Started again because of large tumour growth pressing on bladder

Second time around though and the consultant has just told him it's not working after PSA has risen to 65 after 4th session and there are additional bone mets

The consultant has said Cabazitaxel  is an option but side effects are likely to be worse

Does anyone have any experience of it or success rates

Thanks for any help

Sorry to see this, fostermm. Men who have tolerated docetaxel well and had a good response in the past tend to tolerate cabazitaxel reasonably well - if the cancer doesn’t respond or the side effects are having too great an impact, he can stop early. There comes a difficult time when you have to weigh up the possible benefit of treatment against its impact on quality of life but I think if the onco would like to try cabz it is worth a go.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I didn't get a notification so I've only just seen this.

He's due to start it on the 1th so we'll see how it goes.  He's desperate to try anything :(
