Apalutamide and epilepsy

A question for Lyn Eyre, who seems to be the GoTo for advice on this sort of thing.

I have recently been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, having had radiotherapy on my prostate 5 years ago, which was successful. My oncologist has started me on Zoladex and is suggesting that I start on apalutamide as well. As I take epilim for epilepsy ( last fit 35 years ago) I am concerned that there may be some conflict with the drugs. Do you have any guidance on this?

Regards Tony

Can your doctors take a look at possible side effects with your current drugs?

The oncology nurse is looking into that now. I am trying to get a broader view from people who may have been faced with the same problem.

I can't think of anyone on here who has had apalutimide and also shared with us that they are on anti-seizure meds. I think your oncologist / nurse specialist needs to talk to a neurologist. They excluded men with a history of seizures from the medical trials.

Thanks for that. I have spoken to my oncology nurse, who has spoken to the drug manufacturer about this. They have said that there may be a risk of seizures with someone in my situation. My oncologist is therefore suggesting that I go onto abiraterone instead, which seems to have numerous potential problems and side effects. I will have to check for feedback on abiraterone in the forum.
