7 weeks post RALP

User

Well 7 weeks today after RALP and have just finished my meeting with urologist.

PSA is now 0.01 and negative margins! Phew 👏

The grade has gone up again from original T2a to T3a but histology shows it was T3b as cancer had spread.

So now onto 3 monthly PSA tests and being monitored and can now focus on recovery without a dark cloud overhead. Still have ED issues and incontinence but that will change over time but cancer has been removed. 😉

There is a silver lining even though it didn’t feel like it.

Great news Steve!

Based on my own experience things will continue to improve in the "urinary" department:

One month post op:

The latest update concerning my ongoing John Thomas rehabilitation campaign (JTRC for short). The poor little chap is slowly improving, but is still rather tender. I've invested in a couple of Age UK washable bed pads, so that at least he can get some fresh air at night. I keep a conventional pad close at hand to ensure that no dribbles reach the carpet on my 3 or 4 nocturnal visits to the toilet.

I’m not saying everyone is the same but just to give a little update.

Incontinence wise - I am now at 8 weeks post op and am in 2 pads a day. Mostly for the just to be on the safe side now. I seem to only leak after 4 pm which is normal as muscles are getting tired. Am dry at night as well. The only issue I get with any leakage now seems to be if I push my body too far. If I hit 3 miles walking in a day, then I leak a bit so knowing my limitations is the key.

ED wise - this is still ongoing and no change at all so far. Still on the daily Cialis and have got an ED clinic being organised for me for support and help. I know it is early but small signs are appearing. I have managed to get a ‘semi’ but lasted 5 seconds but a start. Self physio is helping but so odd for a guy to have no sperm but orgasm happens. Towels at the ready for sure as urine comes flying out! 😂

I hope this is some glimmer of hope for some men and women going through this. It’s a long journey but getting there x

Steve

thanks for the update. Good news, you must be relieved.  I am 6 weeks behind you. Surgery last Monday. Tethered to the catheter till Thursday.Lots of lying and lounging with daily short walks. Too long and it starts to pull at the stitches.

Best of luck with your continued recovery.

That's great news Steve, particularly that the surgeon achieved negative margins with a T3b diagnosis.

There are some challenges still to deal with but you have reached a milestone and are over the worst.

Hi Martin

ah the wonderful catheter is lovely isn’t it? 😂 a few more days and you will have it out. Make sure you do your pelvic floor on the day it comes out and keep em going for sure!

Having stitches out is a doddle. No pain whatsoever so don’t worry about that. Take it easy with your walks, listen to your body ok. Took me about 4 weeks to get to about 2 miles a day.

hope all goes ok for you and keep us updated
