Losing Weight post treatment

Hi

My partner (age 58) had a radical prostatectomy 2017 and Radiotherapy 2020. Still has slow rising PSA, monitored 3 monthly.

He has been trying to lose weight since last year to regain fitness and stave off any other potential health conditions, but despite a healthy diet, is having little joy. Within the realms of tiredness he gets, we walk nearly every day and are reasonably active.

Interested if anyone else in similar circumstances has experienced this too? We wonder if treatments have changed his metabolism and are certain some is water retention.

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Trish,

I put on loads of weight during HT. Only way to lose it again post-treatment, in my experience, is to eat less. Exercise improves your fitness, but it's virtually impossible to lose meaningful amounts of weight simply through exercise.

I found that what worked for me was an intermittent fasting diet. Two days a week I skip breakfast and lunch and restrict dinner to 500 kcal. Other days I eat normally. I can lose a steady 1kg/week this way.

Cheers,

Chris
