Rutherford Cancer Centres going into liquidation

The Rutherford Cancer Centres have announced they're going in to liquidation. They operate the private proton beam centres in Reading and Wales (and maybe a Northern one too now), as well as doing other private cancer treatments, and a small number of subcontracted treatments for the NHS. They had insufficient patients using the facility, particularly during COVID.

This is regrettable, as although Proton Beam has not demonstrated the theoretical advantages over other forms of RT for PCa, it has proved particularly advantageous in treating some other forms of cancer. Of course the pandemic will have played a significant part but when people can have this treatment on the NHS at the Christie in Manchester and at UCLH in London, some potential patients may prefer not to spend their savings during financially constrained times. Also, it's likely that not everybody was aware of Proton Beam or their insurers would not pay for it. A real set back..

Well the facilities may continue as a going concern. The shareholders and creditors will lose out but someone may pick up a couple of cyclotrons cheap and find a use for them. A bit like Concord, a complete financial disaster, but once the debts were written off (thank you tax payers) it became a viable aircraft.
