Cabazitaxel after first line docetaxel chemo

Hi, hunny diagnosed metastatic stage 4 cancer Nov last year.  PSa 597.  Started Firmagon injections. PSA down to 7.95. Then had 6 sessions docetaxel.  PSA half way through 1.41.  End of 6th PSA 8.06. Had a month off chemo.  Last hospital appointment they said they wanted to continue with more docetaxel, probably 3. But they saw how bad his nails were and have changed it to 3 cycles of Cabazitaxel with no prednisolone

Firmagon is to continue for another 2 months.  Scan half way through showed no new growth and shrinkage to cancer.  Scan at end said cancer had stabilized.

Has anybody else changed from docetaxel to Cabazitaxel because of side effects?

In the UK, the change from to cabazitaxel is because the docetaxel hasn't worked.

Do you need to clarify the Firmagon 2 month thing? It is possible that they do something different in France but usually, he would stay on Firmagon for the rest of his life, even if they add things like abiraterone / enzalutimide later.

Hi Lyne

Thanks for your reply.

So are you saying he will stay on Firmagon injections whether he is mHSPC or whether he is mHRPC??

I thought the Firmagon was being given because he was mHSPC, and that would change when he became mHRPC.

Our team do not explain anything.  They just say we know best and if you don't like it then go back to the UK!!

If his PSA has increased from 7.95 at start of chemo to 8.06 at end would you say that he is now mHRPC??

His cancer has shrunk in this time and has stablised.

Looking forward to your reply Lyne
