Advice needed please re meeting

Hi

hope you are all ok x I need a bit of advice please. Pete was meant to be reviewed in a MDT meeting two weeks ago. They said it didn't happen because his scan results were not back (even tho we had been told them when he had his biopsy done before the meeting). He was scheduled to be discussed Friday just gone and we were due a phone call from the hospital today to make an appointment with the oncologist. The phone call hadn't come by the time I got home so I called them. The nurse tried to say that he hadn't been discussed because of the test results. When I said we had been told them twice she said that he was missed out on the list. She has assured me that he is on this Friday's meeting list and that we can see the oncologist on the following Tuesday. What would you recommend I do if it doesn't happen again x thanks in advance xx

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) offers confidential advice, support and information on health-related matters.

They provide a point of contact for patients, their families and their carers.

You can find PALS officers in your local hospital.

How can PALS help?

PALS provides help in many ways. For example, it can:

help you with health-related questions

help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS

tell you how to get more involved in your own healthcare

PALS can give you information about:

the NHS

the NHS complaints procedure, including how to get independent help if you want to make a complaint

support groups outside the NHS

PALS also helps to improve the NHS by listening to your concerns and suggestions.

How do I contact my nearest PALS?

You can find your nearest PALS office on the NHS website.

You can also ask your GP surgery, hospital or phone NHS 111 for details of your nearest PALS.

I would phone on Thursday and make a nuisance of myself. Ask what time the meeting is, is your husband on the list? Where is he on the list? What time will they be discussing him? Has she got his scan results in front of her? Can she read them out to you? Can they give you a call straight after the meeting rather than on the following Monday? Emphasise they made a mistake last time so you want to make sure everything is in place

You won't get a useful or meaningful answer to any of these questions, but you will annoy the person sufficiently that they won't want to have to deal with you again next week. So they will make sure everything is in place for the meeting.

I wouldn't be doing any of this if they had not made a mistake, it is a waste of NHS resources, but they have made a mistake and you are going to have to manage them until they put it right.
