Im 1 year post op. My surgeon was unable to save any nerves. I use the pump but probably not enough. How often should I be using it  and I am seeing no real improvement with any erections. Any suggestions out  there.

Hi, I would say it is helpful to use the pump daily in maintaining blood flow, at least 10mins per session. For me it aids in providing engorgement with the use of rings to maintain sufficient enlargement for sex. Still a work in progress, 8 months post surgery.

Are you taking any medication, either daily or weekly. 100mg Sildenafil is a weekly dose / event driven meds.

Have you looked into using injections?

Brown, if your nerves were truly not spared you probably won't achieve an erection without some form of direct chemical intervention into the penis. I was supposedly non nerve sparring but I did get some stirrings early after surgery and eight years on I get the odd surprise.

The pump has two purposes one is to get blood flowing into the penis and keep it healthy. The other purpose in conjunction with the rings is to create an artificial erection for sexual activity. Regular masturbation can also help with penis rehabilitation.

You probably need to go down the muse pellets or injections, but you should perhaps go down the route of medications just in case they do work.

Never give up and have fun trying to solve the issue. Get any help you can and try anything on offer.

We have some very knowledgeable members on here who will no doubt be along to share their knowledge and experience.

Thanks Chris

As commented, you need to use the pump to preserve penile health, but without nerves, it won't cause natural erections to return. For erections, you will need to use the penile injections, pellets, or cream. (You can use the pup with constriction rings too, but not everyone finds those erections suitable for use with sex.)

It is also worth asking for a pack of 8 x 100mg Sildenafil (Viagra). These won't work if you really have no nerves, but occasionally some nerves are spared which the surgeon didn't know about, and in that case, you might get a response from the Viagra. Try them a few times (a single failure isn't indicative of it not working), and then perhaps every few months, have another go in case there's been any recovery in that period. This probably won't work, but it's worth a go on the off-chance.

Your GP should be able to give you the Sildenafil, but you'll need an appointment with the ED clinic to be taught how to use the injections or pellets, before your GP can prescribe them.
