A bit anxious

Hi all. Diagnosed last November. Gleason 3-4 T-2 1 positive core from 25. PSA 9. Had a meeting with Urologist surgeon mid December. Still waiting to see Oncologist. My CSN has told me it may be not be until April. In the meantime I've had another PSA which has elevated to 11.1. I'm a wee bit anxious as you start to get negative thoughts etc. Is it normal to wait nearly 4 months between specialists? Regards

You could ask about going on Bicalutamide, a mild hormone therapy tablet that should pause the cancer. Only thing is, you want to make sure you've first had all scans they might need, as it makes some of the scans less sensitive.

But if Fifefella asks for hormone therapy as a temporary precaution (while waiting for appointments etc), won't it in practice result in him becoming committed to the hormone/radiotherapy NHS 'pathway' ? Thereby ruling out any surgery or ablation option which doesn't involve hormones.

No, having HT while waiting for the oncology appointment wouldn't rule him out for surgery. The important thing, as Andy has pointed out, is to make sure all scans have been completed first.
