It should work just fine, may take a bit of practice, make sure you are shaved it makes a big difference!

Dont forget the constriction rings are only needed for sex, if it's just for rehab, repeated inflations / deflatiobs works best.

It's a good pump.

Have you had a pump clinic session where they demo it on you, and explain how to use it?
Without that, many people fail to get on with the pump.

I’ve had that pump for 8 yrs. It’s a superb pump. Did they give you the stretchy rings that are X or Y or Z. They don’t come with the pump and are a separate prescription or buy from imedicare.com. They look like a clear polo mint with wing tabs !!

Greg, Also had my response pump for over eight, had no issues with it.

I didn't read the instructions and managed to get a testicle inside the ring , very painful.

Thanks Chris

Hi yes I did get the rings with the pump. I have noticed a slight improvement but not going hard enough?

Hi thanks for reply I did go to hospital and was shown how to use it but wasn't brave enough to do the demo on myself. I am sure I am using correctly and have read all information. Do you think my dose of Tadalafil is correct 1 x 5mg daily and 4 tabs at once for a response?

It is very rare for a man to have such grave ED that even the vacuum doesn't work. If you are not getting fully engorged in the tube, it is usually down to incorrect technique. Important to:

- trim the pubic hair short to improve the vacuum seal

- use lube on the end of the tube as well as inside

- pump in short bursts, pausing every few pumps to give the blood time to get there

- hold the tube very steady so that the seal isn't broken

If you engorge fully in the tube but lose it when you remove the tube, the problem is either with your method of transferring the ring from the tube to the base of your penis, or the ring is not small enough.

If you have such severe ED that a vacuum pump doesn't work at all, it is unlikely that tablets are going to help.

Assuming that the pump just needs some practice and that you are capable of engorgement, 4 x 5mg tablets is the correct dose for an 'event'

Lyn is absolutely correct. If you are determined and practise you can't fail to achieve an erection good enough for penetrative sex. I have been using a range of VEDs for the past 12 years which has given us a very satisfying sex life. When I first started it seemed an impossible task. Particularly when I looked at the ring, just the thought of it clamping at the base of the penis was frightening and I have to admit that even now when I go for a maximum erection, transferring the ring from the tube on to the penis is a very ouch! making moment, but what follows is certainly worth it! My advancing age, before the surgery, was making it difficult to achieve an adequate erection and not lasting long enough and it seemed that our sex life was approaching its natural end! This episode in our life has extended our sex life. For encouragement you may like to read my posts under 'Re-establishing Sex Life'  on this site. Nobody recovering from prostate cancer need go without sex if they want it.

You are a wonderfully reassuring voice, Pratap!

Important to acknowledge though that there is a very small % of men for whom nothing helps after RP, even the vacuum pump, so while every man should be able to achieve orgasm and engage in intimacy, not all men will be able to have penetrative sex. For some (often those who were given no help or advice post-op and didn't know where to look for support) atrophy can be so severe that nothing can be done. There are also too many ICBs / NHS trusts now who deny men the means to recover erectile function - policies of not prescribing a vacuum or cialis, long delays for ED clinic referral, limiting sexual activity to a maximum of one attempt per month ... let alone those areas that gave closed down their ED / andrology clinics!

It is an even worse picture for men on medium to long term HT, many of whom are offered no ED support at all - virtually guaranteeing atrophy and further ED

Lyn you are so right about those on HT. I spoke to my GP (and my CNS) about this pump because I’ve got another 2 years of HT after my RT is finished in May…so that will be 3 years in total on HT! They both said atrophy wouldn’t be a problem so wanted to prescribe me with viagra first to see if it works. It does  at the moment but who knows after RT? Anyway that’s not the point, I want to do rehab regularly during this period so that when this is all over I am still able to enjoy a penetrative sex life again.

I bought a pump from lovehoney which does work but I find the constriction ring a bit tight.
