Bilateral nerve sparing

I am due to have RP this week but starting to panic. The tumour I have is bilateral. Will this make nerve sparing more difficult?

This is a question for your surgeon. It might make it more difficult, depending if the tumor is at or near the back of the prostate where the nerves are.

Since you're worried, contact the department. You may be able to defer it a bit if necessary for you to find out your situation and decide what you want to do. They can often pull someone else back into your slot given enough notice, so ask how long you'd need to wait if you deferred it.

My surgeon did tell me before hand whether nerves were going to be sparked or not. In my case both nerves were sparred, however 10 months post surgery, still no erections.

Gee Baba - have you had any penile rehab: pump, Viagra, injections. From what I’ve read it can help to stop the atrophy during recovery time.

Spoke to the CNS today. She said that if I have been offered bilateral nerve sparing then the surgeon must be confident that this can be achieved - based on MRI scan.  Also said tumour is confined to the capsule which creates a layer between  tumour & the nerves.

Reassured by this but might still ring tomorrow & try to speak to a surgeon.

Good question, I have tried all the above, but sadly not seen any improvements, I have got 2 high grade pumps, however the minute I come out of the pump, my penis deflates. I was prescribed 100mg Sidenafil, that did not work, then onto 20mg of Tadanafil, that also did not work. I know I should carry on trying, however not used either pumps in 2mths, and I do take the Tadanafil on days when I remember!

Gee Baba

Have you read or watched John Mulhalll - he has some good advice. He also gives more realistic timelines.

Had my surgery on Wednesday. Surgeon came to see me on Thursday - he was aware of my NS concerns said surgery went well & both bundles saved 100%. If I didn’t have this feckin catheter I’d have jumped for joy. I know from this forum even with good NS ED can still be a problem. But at least it’s given me HOPE.
