Cialis v. Viagra

Had NSRP last week - still on a catheter. Penile rehabilitation appointment today. Been advised on here to start on low dose Cialis & then 6- 8 weeks combine with pump. Sounds like the way to go. I was told by the ED nurse to sort out the Cialis when I go to get the catheter removed next week. He also said Cialis wasn’t funded & I would be offered low dose Viagra. I appreciate costs are important but does that mean the  treatment is less effective?Does anybody else have any experience of this? Does it matter which one is taken? Will it make a difference to results?

Cialis has a much longer half life than Viagra and is therefore it is working in your system much longer than Viagra. So for penile rehabilitation Cialis is better but for an event (which you are not ready for yet) both should be effective in producing an erection (assuming the nerves are functioning, which only time will tell). I found Viagra gave me headaches. I managed to get Cialis prescribed instead (20 mg twice a week) but that gives me acid reflux.

There is no daily low dose Sildenafil* (Viagra), because it's never been shown to work for penile rehabilitation, and a daily dose can't achieve continuous dosing. To achieve the continuous dosing which daily Tadalafil does, you would have to take Sildenafil 3-4 times a day.

The 5mg daily low dose Tadalafil has been shown to be effective for penile rehabilitation, although the evidence isn't strong. (Some researchers observed it, other researchers didn't.)

*For those taking Sildenafil for pulmonary hypertension (which is what it was originally intended for, and for which continuous dosing is essential), they take a special 20mg tablet 3 times a day. The tablet is a mixture of immediate release and delayed release Sildenafil, to make it last longer than it otherwise would. I imagine it's stonkingly expensive, and it's not used for erectile dysfunction.

My ED nurse agreed to prescribe me Tadalafil. He sent me a prescription through for 8 x 10mg tablets which has confused me. I was expecting 30 x 5mg tablets to be taken daily.
I will take the 10mg daily - it can’t do any harm & check back with after Easter.

10mg is a silly dose, certainly to start with.

The event dose is 20mg, and the daily low dose is 5mg.
Both are available as half doses for the case where side effects are unacceptable.

It should say how often to take them on the prescription. In the absence of anything, taking them every other day would be pretty similar to the 5mg daily low dose, given they last longer than a day.

You may have 8 because that's the most they'll prescribe for an 8 week prescribing period as that used to be the limit for ED. I would argue this is for penile rehab, which is a different case, where either 5mg daily low dose is used, or 2 x 20mg/week.

JohnQ I have been prescribed 8 x 10mg of Tadalafil my ED nurse has told me to take 2 a week for a month on a repeat prescription,  she says the 10mg dose stays in your system for up to 36hrs

It seems with Cialis some health trusts wont prescribe it at all and some, like mine, won't prescribe the daily 5 mg rehab dose. I get prescribed the 20 mg event dose. I have to break these in half and take half (10 mg) every other day. I can just about tolerate the acid reflux with that dose.
