PSA increase.

My first PSA ten weeks after my radical prostatectomy was 0.01 now 3 months later it has risen to 0.03. Should I be concerned about the rise?  (Have my specialist nurse appointment on Monday)

Thanks

Markie, both figures are very low. Were they done at the same lab or hospital/ doctors . Was the 0.03 less than <0.03. fluctuations happen and from experience the same blood sample tested twice  at the same lab and same time has a variation of 0.01. Easy for me to say because I have been there , don't worry,it wont help. The next one will give you a better picture and it may well go down.

I make sure I have my tests done at the same place and roughly the same time of day.

Thanks Chris

< This sign is the key, means less than. I can see it on my health record. Unfortunately the DR receptions will miss it out. The clinical nurses don't.

To echo Chris, was told be consistent with the location of your blood tests.

Hi Mark, my first post surgery was 0.03, 6 weeks later 0.04 (I was getting worried) then next one 6 weeks after that one was 0.01. It's a bloody minefield. 🤔🙄

The figures you are talking about are tiny. If it were 0.1 it may be worth a bit of investigation. I am slightly surprised the nurse quoted 2.0 as a threshold that would be the case for an RT patient but not for an RP patient.

Yes 0.2 is the usual figure or 3 consecutive rises above 0.1.

My husband is in a similar situation but his is rising a bit quicker. I get him in for tests every 6 weeks at the moment and it’s gone from 0.029 to 0.044 to 0.115

We had an appointment with local urology consultant and they’re still wait and see! Going to London tomorrow though for appointment with surgeon to see what he suggests.

Hopefully yours will just steady and not continue to rise anymore but just keep a close eye on it 👍

Thank you for your replies. I spoke with the nurse yesterday, and she said it wasn't good that it had gone up, but it wasn't enough for them to bring it back in for further treatment. Apparently, they don't do anything unless it hits 2.0.
