Travel insurance woes

User

Hi,

I’ve got stage 4 with mets and I am currently having Prostap hormone injections.

does anybody have any advice on getting insurance. I am with Nationwide but they have declined. I have tried all the major players such as Staysure and insurance with amongst others, but can’t seem to get cover.
Has anybody got insurance with this diagnosis and if so who with?

Hi all

I totally agree what Gerry says, people like us want to enjoy our lives while we still can,but yet again insurance companies feed off our diagnosis, I'm not going to keel over and die overnight, but if I slipped over and broke my wrist in Vegas I dare say they would blame my mets as a course not the uneven sidewalk,

I don't think they are ripping people off. Insurance companies are businesses, not charities, and they have to mitigate their potential costs. A significant part of what we are asking them to cover is the risk of travel cancellation or delay - a man with prostate cancer may be unlikely to die suddenly on holiday as a result of that cancer but may need to cancel or postpone a holiday due to cancer progression, change of treatment plan, change of drugs causing unexpected side effects, the hospital changing the appointment date, infection due to weakened immune system (not just men on chemo but also those on abiraterone, enzalutimide, apalutimide, etc) and then there is the increased risk of hernia (men who have had LRP), lost medication, urinary retention (anyone with an enlarged prostate or existing retention issues), osteoporosis (anyone on HT for more than a couple of years unless they are also having zometa infusions).

Thanks Phil, I will try them again was that a couple’s insurance or was that on your own? I have tried about 8, 2 quoted me both around £3k for single trip. The others declined.

Hi

That's for me and the wife, but I'll have to add that I am not on chemo just tablets at the moment and that my cancer is stable and under control for now, that may make a difference when getting quotes.

Before Covid Nationwide would insure me for a small supplement but don't anymore. I've tried several companies but got no quotes under 4 figures so I've given up - just using Nationwide for their standard cover with PCA excluded and carry the risk myself.

I have annual travel insurance cover through my RBS bank account.
I discussed in detail with them at the last 2 renewals and explained that I was on Prostrap & Abi. They insured me for no extra cost.
That will likely change once treatment changes but very supportive meantime!

Hi,

I haven't had to use any special insurance but Aviva said if I had they'd put me through to AllClear, I think it was.   I just looked on the Aviva website and it gives a link to a government list of insurers for people with medical conditions.  It's here:

Good luck, Peter

Hi Paul.

Insurancewith specialises in prostate cancer cover, I looked at quite a few before getting a quote with them & they where reasonable.

Regards Jeff.

My husband has got travel insurance with insurancewith.com for the Caribbean which most companies exclude when you have advanced pc. Single trip policy at very reasonable cost.

All these insurance companies, should be ashamed of themselves, we go through enough without them ,ripping us off,it’s a disgrace, more should be done ,to stop them they need more publicity for this fraud

I have Stage 4 and have found insurewith very good. They have insured me for trips to the US, driving to Le Mans Classic and a week’s golfing in Turkey. And I’ll cover a 13 day train trip to Berlin, Dresden, Prague, Krakow and Warsaw with them in the summer. Good knowledgable questioning and reasonable costs. Just note they have a limit of £5k on a holiday cost - not a problem to me but worth noting
