Help, awaiting biopsy

Husband had PSA test 14 months ago as friend had prostate cancer, reading was 3.

A year later 20.13.

MRI and bone scan done.

told bone scan clear but MRI shows a suspicious area, and biopsy recommended.

prostate is enlarged 54.

no symptoms.

Unprepared for this so didn’t ask questions such as size and location of suspicious area, could this be benign etc.

Is it likely because of a jump from 3 to 20.13 to be cancer, and aggressive at that?
Any advice as to questions to ask next time would be appreciated.

PSA is very unreliable,it could be  prostatitis. The MRI is more useful. Did he have a digital rectal exam (finger up bum) if doctor says it fells hard or lumpy that is quite a good indicator. A large prostate is fairly common and of no concern.

Until you get the biopsy there is no way of knowing for sure. If he has got cancer it is very treatable.

The following is suggested questions for post biopsy meeting.

Hi,

Thankyou.

no DRE, the GP referred after phone consult due to blood test.

then the hospital did a phone not face to face appointment which thinking they wouldn’t give bad news by phone we hoped meant the MRI might have ruled out anything sinister.

He has no symptoms of infection.
