0.3 PSA Result.

Hi all,

I'm a 57 year old having issues with pain in the groin area, getting up multiple times in the night to pee and starting to dribble alot after peeing. I thought I might have prostatitis. So I went and saw my GP who did a DRE and said it felt enlarged. Did a urine test and a PSA test ( 2weeks after the DRE). No sure of the urine test results but on my NHS app it shows the PSA results as 0.3 ug/L. That seems very low. I had booked a phone appt with the GP before I had the results back for later in the month. I was just wondering why the PSA could be so low when he felt the prostate was enlarged.

Many thanks in advance.

Enlarged prostate does not mean prostate cancer. You would seem to be cancer free but likely have a UTI or prostatitis.
You will need to wait for the urine culture to come back and likely be on antibiotics.

Also prostate cancer (except in very advanced cases) does not cause pain or in most cases, symptoms. One of the reasons that we push for every man > 45 to get an annual PSA test.
