Travel insurance for Caribbean?

My husband was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer 2 months ago. So far few symptoms and just on hormone treatment. We managed to get travel insurance from a specialist company to cover a recent cruise to the Canary Islands. We would love to do a Caribbean cruise while he is still well but this policy doesn't cover the Caribbean or USA. When I asked if we could add it on they said they couldn't cover him ☹️. has anyone with advanced prostate cancer managed to find travel insurance that would cover a Caribbean cruise?

He still does keep fit and walks with the ramblers so seems unfair he can’t find cover. We saw some very sick people on our recent cruise - one woman on dialysis! How do they get cover ?
Thanks for any help.

Hi my husband has advanced pc and on hormone therapy. We got insurance for USA through ‘Worldwide’.

Hi

I have cover for Europe only, but I do hear of people who don't get cover and chance it as we have a condition that you'll not be keeling over night but maybe if you like booking well in advance it may pay to get insurance I use allclear.

Thanks Phil - he is with All Clear but they will only cover him Worldwide excluding the  USA, Canada, Caribbean and Mexico. He paid over 3K! We wouldn't even risk Europe without cover. If something happens and you have not declared all your medical conditions you are not covered for anything. I can understand why people might take a chance and rely on the GHIC with the cost.  As you say, with prostate cancer you are not likely to need any medical treatment abroad in the early stages. We will probably just have to look at cover in Europe next year as it is just too expensive.

just spent over an hour on the phone with Worldwide who have several underwriters and none of them will cover the Caribbean for advanced prostate cancer☹️. Caribbean is a very high risk area because if there was a serious medical issue they would probably fly you to the USA. Sad to think that someone who goes to the gym several times a week, cycles and walks with the ramblers can’t get full medical cover. Oh well - med cruise then!
Thanks anyway.

I had the same problem Linda last year doing a Caribbean cruise out of Miami. Couldn't get insurance so took the cruise and carried the risk.

I'm not letting this disease stop me enjoying holidays. My wife has said no more long haul trips but she's relented again and we're off to South Africa in January, again with me carrying the risk.

I agree with you about fellow cruisers, many look on their last legs get insurance but cancer sufferers with spread have great difficulty getting cover.

I have advanced PC and got European Cover from Insurance With very reasonably. No idea about worldwide or cruising however, but I found them really helpful. I'll see in the next week or two, when I have to renew, whether they are still helpful🤔

Hi

We are trying to get insurance for a trip to USA and Canada. I have pc thas spread to the bones. All Clear seems the most reasonable so far, about 3.5k for annual cover. Does anyone now of any other insurers that deal with cancer sufferers?

In the meantime I keep walking, cycling and playing with the grandchildren!

Take care

Bob

We have now found Insurancewith.com  who do a single trip policy for a Caribbean cruise for £550 with their higher cover. unless you are doing multiple trips a single trip policy works out a lot cheaper. I have spent hours researching travel insurance so feel a bit of an expert now ☹️.

Enjoy your trip!
