Hi

Did post earlier for first time, but something went wrong so trying again

I am a 62 yr male.

After blood test had PSA of 24 so ended up in Uro. This resulted in bone scan and prostate scan. Followed by prostate biopsy...click click click. Never playing Ludo at Christmas again. Waiting for results of biopsy, that is one procedure you leave your dignity at the door.

Just thought I would introduce my self and let the journey begin.

Welcome, it's good to get on this forum early. You will be well informed as you go through the process. It's possible you don't have cancer, but the majority of 62 year olds do have it they just don't know it, and will die from something else first.

Hi ABB0,

I was where you are almost exactly 5 years ago:  wondering what my biopsy results would show after a blood test showed an elevated PSA level.

Whatever your biopsy shows, there is a wide array of treatment options available to you, and the effectiveness of treatments has increased significantly even over the past decade.  And you're not alone.

Best of luck.

Hi

Well won't be long now till I know what we are dealing with. Had a call today to book biopsy results appointment and to discuss the plan, with the Doc. Hospitals words not mine.

So Monday 15 Jan 11.15 at Worcester Royal.

Not sure how I feel about the way it was worded, think the brain went into..fear the worse..mode.

Once I know what I have to fight, then fight I will.

All the best

Do let us know what happens in the meeting, ABB0.  It is easy for your mind to go into overdrive worrying about what might happen, but the wealth of experience here can help to make it a lot less daunting.

Hi

Just had biopsy result meeting.

Gleason 4+3 T3b

Great chat with the consultant. Operation would be open, not keyhole. He explained all risks and after effects.

He has requested consultation with Oncology specialist to discuss R/T option before making my decision.

So will be starting H/T as soon as.

All the best

Abbo

Hi ABB0,

Welcome to the club that nobody wants to be a member of. You're right about the biopsy and your modesty, but TBH you will learn on this journey to just to lie back and be poked and prodded in all sorts of places…and just smile or laugh🤣🤣

The waiting is definitely the hardest part, I’m not going to tell you to try and not worry as that’s just silly, but just try and keep yourself as active and busy as possible…and be good to yourself, give yourself lots of ‘treats’ to keep you smiling. Whatever is ahead for you I think this helps enormously to get you through it.

This forum is a fantastic place for support and there are also other support organisations such as Maggies which has been invaluable to me,

So, good luck with your journey and all the best for 2024.

Derek

Do you know why the surgeon was opting for 'open' rather than Robot Assisted Radical Prostatectomy (RARP)?

Was there something unusual in the way that your insides are laid out maybe?

Someting to with tumor too close to anal wall and lymph nodes

Hi ABBO. It looks like your surgeon's name got past the moderators somehow. You seem to be following in my footsteps. I was T3b, Gleason 4+3 and open surgery with the same surgeon. It does seem when you are at that staging he recommends open surgery. He said to me it allows him to have a good feel around. I'm guessing he is also proposing lymph node dissection as well. My scan didn't show any spread to the lymph nodes. He removed 34 nodes, one of which was found to be positive. The fact that you are going on HT straight away suggests there may still be a fair old waiting list for surgery. Good look with whatever path you choose. Chris

Hi ABB0,

Best of luck with your decision.

ABBO, interesting🤔🤔🤔 my staging was also T3BN0M0 but surgery was ruled out because of that, maybe because open surgery wasn’t available. Be interesting to hear what the Onco says, best to hear them out before making a final decision, unless of course you’ve already done that. Good luck with your decision, not an easy one I suspect but once you’ve made it you can focus on getting ready. I’d get started with the Pelvic Floor exercise now as no matter what choice you make it will help you.

All the best,

Derek

Thanks for the advice. No decision yet, waiting on chat with Onco first.

Update Onco appointment is 29 Feb.

Starting HT on Monday Bicalutamide followed by Prostap first injection 6 Feb.

I do have a question that has been spinning around my head. How have people managed work wise?

I am an agency employed HGV driver and would like to work as long as I can, depending which treatment I choose.

Cheers

Abbo
