Apalutamide Dreams

Hello again.

I have just completed my first month's treatment with Apalutamide and, generally speaking , I seem to be tolerating it reasonably well so far. One thing I have noticed, however, is that I am having extremely vivid and sometimes pretty unpleasant dreams. These usually occur after I have got up for my first and second pee of the night. I was advised by a SACT nurse that a lot of men favour taking the meds at night in the hope that side effects are mitigated when asleep so I have been taking mine at around 11pm before I go to bed at midnight-ish. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I would be glad to hear.

Cheers,

Mitch 35

Hi Mitch

i have just started on Darolutamide - a similar drug from the same class and I have started to experience unpleasant dreams. I’m not on it long so I will see if it settles down but I also wondered if it was a thing. Sleep disturbances in general appear to have been studied but I haven’t found anything specific about dreams.

its a fascinating thing as, on waking, I’m experiencing relief and I’m not experiencing much negatively whilst awake but the fears and anxiety appear very vivid whilst asleep.

i hope yours are settling down or you have som way of accommodating it,

best

Hi Richard,

Good to hear that I'm not the only one to experience this. I was starting to think I must be an exception. I've now been on Apalutamide for several months and, unfortunately, the problem continues. The dreams/nightmares happen pretty much every night and vary only in their intensity. I have spoken about this with my consultant and we discussed reducing the dose or having a short break to see if that makes a difference, however, the treatment is doing its job so far and I'm reluctant to change the regimen in case it changes my overall condition.

I hope your side effects become more manageable with time and will be interested to hear how you're getting on.

Good luck!

Thanks for that Steve and I’m sorry it appears that the issue is ongoing. I will keep you posted on my own progress in this regard. I totally get the reluctance to come off the treatment if it’s working. I would feel the same way I think. I have been told that the hot flushes that I’m experiencing may “settle down” - or I just get used t them. If so it will be interesting to see if there’s any diminution in the dreams.

Best

Richard
