Pelvic Floor exercises after RARP - frequency

I am nearly four months post RARP at Addenbrookes and grateful to be 95% dry. Putting it down to working the pelvic floor a lot before and after surgery.  Would appreciate any thoughts on how many times a day I need to continue the pelvic floor exercises. I am currently doing the 10 reps on quick and hold 10 seconds three times a day, as Addenbrookes recommend, but they did not specify how many times a day after surgery and if you can reduce over time. I feel three times a day is enough. I know we are supposed to do them for the rest of our lives. We are all different but wonder if others have experience that three sessions across the day is enough if you are pretty much dry to keep dry.

Post RP I was doing pelvic floor exercises 3 times a day. I was told by the clinical nursing team that I needed to increase to 6 times a day. A used to use the squeezey app on my phone to guide me.

Hi,

I'm over four years post op, 100% dry, and I still do my PFC's twice a day.. plus some extras while I'm driving. The logic being that I want to maintain my continence as I get older.

Cheers,

Kev.

Just had my three month check post RARP, actually six months, it matters not. I was told that as I am virtually dry that once a day is enough but given I have got into the routine of three times a day will continue that to ensure strength is maintained. I cannot stress enough, I am sure these contributed to the quicker than anticipated recovey of bladder control for me and would encourage you all to start them before the operation  and persevere afterwards as many times a day as is recommended post operation

Three times a day is pretty normal. I achieved 95% continence after about three months but over the next three months it flattened out at 99.9% and that is where I am 12 years after the surgery. I tend to leak when sexually excited and at orgasm! Obviously a nuisance but we have found ways of dealing with it. I am afraid I stopped doing the exercise many years ago which has more to do with laziness than anything else.

I’m 55, just 3 weeks after RARP, and exercising 6 times per day. At the moment I think I’m dry during the night, not too bad whilst sitting down but getting through 2-3 pads per day whilst moving around - which I think is about as good as can be expected for week 3.

After undergoing RARP nearly four months ago, you're glad to be 95% dry, thanks to doing pelvic floor exercises regularly. Right now, you're doing these exercises three times a day, as Addenbrookes suggested. But you're wondering if you can do them less often over time. It's essential to keep doing these exercises for continence, but the number of times you do them might change for each person. Just find what works best for you and talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.
