Swollen hands and fingers

Good morning everyone,

my dad is on HRT and Tamulosin.  He is suffering with really swollen hands.  Seen GP and been told it is not fluid retention, because the hands are not spongey.  He can barely bend his fingers.  Anyone else had anything like this.  GP has told him it is not the medication ?

kindest regards

Debbie

Hello Debbie

I am using Tamsulosin at the moment for some issues with treatment for metastatic cancer at the rear of my body last year.  My hands still have some sore joints at the base of fingers as they meet the palms.  Does that sound similar to your father's discomfort?

Hi Debbie.

I have been on HT for 28 months and I have been on Tamsulosin for many years. I have never experienced any adverse side effects from the Tamsulosin but the side effects from the HT is causing me severe problems. Apart from the usual and forewarned side effects - hot flushes, fatigue, loss of muscle tone, and weight gain - I have experienced considerable joint pain in my hands and, more recently, my legs. I believe the chief culprit to be the HT (Zoladex). Joint pain is one of the known side effects of this medication although not everyone experiences this.

Hand therapy helped with my hands but while the pain is less it persists. I also receive regular physiotherapy.

Best wishes for your dad's recovery.

Hi Debbie,

I agree with Hieronymus, I’m on Prostap and have had stiff, swollen hands in the mornings and it has really affected my leg joints for which I am doing exercises recommended by my Physio. These are REALLY making a difference so it might be worth going to see one. I would have had to wait months on the NHS so I went private for this.
My GP said the same thing about the drug not causing the side effects, but the truth is they JUST DONT KNOW!  I have had my last injection now so it will be interesting to see whether the side effects get better after I stop the drug but before I get my testosterone back.

Good luck,

Derek
