Someone sent me this today, basically it looks like another trace for PSMA scans. It compares it to the 18f tracer, but I couldn't see any comparisons to the Gallium tracer.

Thanks Chris

I know several establishments were working on other tracer possibilities because the Galium one is expensive and difficult to produce sometimes not achieving the necessary standard.for use so has to be. reproduced.

This talk explains PSMA quite well, but I'm still unclear: What role does PSMA play in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer?

Put simply PSMA is a scan that helps identify where cancer is in the patient being increasingly effective as PSA increases. It can and sometimes does change what treatment a patient is offered. For example it sometimes shows one or more Mets and depending on the number it sometimes enables a few only to be treated radically. Another example is my case where there was thought to be cancer in an iliac Lymph Node and they did not want to give me another salvage HIFU because it would not reach it. So encouraged by another Hospital, I had a PSMA scan that didn't show cancer in the node or anywhere else in my body. The cancer was confined to my Prostate. This meant I could and did have a second application of HIFU rather than be systemically treated with HT. So the PSMA scan served to change my treatment. The PSMA can is also used as a prerequisite for men with advanced PCa to check they express sufficient PSMA to have 177 Lutetium Immunotherapy The PSMA scan can therefore serve a very useful role. It is further explained in this link along with a competing scan developed by Dr Marty Pomper and his team at Johns Hopkins which some consider may be better than the PSMA scan in certain situations. https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/news/articles/2021/11/the-psma-targeting-era-a-game-changer-for-men-with-prostate-cancer-worldwide

this is a great example of how PSMA scans can directly influence and improve treatment decisions. Really highlights their value in personalizing prostate cancer care.
Just be aware that it's not always positive eg the guy on here the other day who had an unnecessary RP because of a PSMA PET.
