‘Oligometastic’ new one to me with useful video link

I came across the below video of a ConsultantOncologist describing a differentiation they are making in America between locally advanced with spread and distant high volume mets.

Makes for interesting albeit sobering reading with the BRCA1/2 gene. Of course everyone’s path and case is different but I found the video useful to get my head around spread. Hope it helps others?

Just to add to the thread, the below article is a fantastic piece on Oncologists views on Oligometastatic spread.

This one is interesting too, explains the difference between radiation for pain relief and radiation for remission and why you should make sure you are getting the latter!

Darren, really good link, that is pretty much the path I am on. Interesting about the rise in PSA after the SABR treatment, mine shot up after my first SABR treatment. Also as you say interesting how they track the way the cancer spreads.

Thanks Chris

In this link the lady posing the questions makes reference to and gives a link to a talk by Dr Kwon. It is long but provides a lot of more recent informatio and I recommend it. https://youtu.be/014O4F971u0?si=fgt6kup4IilBDZPH Also newer members to the forum may not have seen a previously posted talk of his on Oliometastasis and this is also worth viewing as it is still largely relevant although scans have advanced since 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkqizmvqJPo

Thanks for this, yes that’s really informative isn’t it. Good resource

It’s the tracking that’s fascinating isn’t it. My understanding is that prior to the type of imaging now available radiotherapy was very difficult to target as accurately. Also the difference between two very similar cases with good and bad outcomes. Very hard to predict outcome.

Thanks for this Old Barry. I’ll catch up on these tonight. Knowledge is power!

Thanks Darren. That really is fascinating.

It seems that even amongst oncologists there's debate about the use of the words "cure" or "curative". More importantly the differences in recommended treatment between medical oncologists and radiation oncologists, particularly for synchronous OMD, mirror the dilemna that us lesser mortals struggle with.

Hi Jules,

Yes absolutely. As much as us fellas are in an unenviable position, I don’t envy the Oncologists position either!
