Travel and medical insurance

I am going to Turkey on holiday this coming June and I cannot find an insurance company that can give me a sensible quote. They are all ridiculously expensive. Has anyone managed to find a reasonable organisation

Hi boroboy.

I tried lots of companies online over the last 2 years but insurancewith gave me the best quote, they are a prostate cancer specialist company as far as I know & the questionnaire is set up to ask the right medical questions. I was recommended to try them by numerous knowledgeable people on this great community site.

I tried all the recommended ones but my usual one turned out the most competitive…Insure and Go. We took out an annual policy. I guess it also depends on where you are with your cancer stage/treatment though as everyone’s circumstances are different.

It’s difficult to comment without knowing further information about your diagnosis and treatment. I use AllClear who were very reasonable for me with an annual policy. I found that it was  just about as cheap to take out an annual policy as a single trip policy🤷🏼‍♂️

I've said this before in other posts - on the basis that with PCa, whether having had radical treatment, or waiting for it, or on AS, investigate a travel insurance company which offers exclusions for existing conditions (as I have done with my own prostate cancer and my wife's bladder cancer etc) on the basis the probability is that nothing will suddenly happen while you are away.  You'd still be covered for any other emergency and baggage loss etc. and there's also the European Health Insurance Card which can be used to access health care similar to our NHS in other countries.

i have bought travel insurance three times this year, at a very reasonable price, from Admiral. Give them a try.

I think what worries me about this approach is that the insurance company might try and wheedle out of paying up if you take ill whilst on holiday, or have an accident. Eg. If you are on HT, it can affect your bones, so if you fall and break a hip they could argue that this was caused by your Cancer  treatment, which you have excluded.

You have a point Decho - and yes, I agree that the insurance company can wheedle out of it, as you say, but this is precisely what they do in all sorts of claims!  Having said that, and bearing mind in my own case (and my wife who also has a number of medical problems) we're prepared to take the risk, on a short European holiday.  Just as an aside, I'm often surprised about people I know in my age group (mid-Seventies) who think nothing of flying off to all sorts of places and I do know they have existing medical conditions which would be extremely costly to insure. However, I can well understand the OP's worry and would want reassurance which is perfectly reasonable, particularly in view of his planned trip to Turkey.  Cheers, Julian

I've tried several, the only ones that will insure me run into 4 figures for a single trip.

A few people on here recommended Insurewith and although they seem to ask the right questions after about 15 minutes of online queries they knocked me back as well.

So I'm insured Worldwide with Nationwide so if I lose my suitcase or my holiday gets curtailed when not my fault I'm covered but not for anything else so I've given up bungy jumping and quad biking for more mundane adventures like walking and lying on a sunbed.
