4 months supply of unopened Enzalutamide - what do we do with it?

M husband had just received his next supply of Enzalutamide a few days before he saw the Oncologist again. Because of side effects she said to stop immediately (we weren’t expecting that!) she is putting him on Aberaterone instead. She implied that if we take the Enzalutamide back to the pharmacy they will destroy it! Is that the case because that seems criminal when you consider see the cost of it?

I suspect the pharmacy would destroy it. Once a drug is out of the supply chain they don't know what conditions it has been stored in, have tablets bean mixed up cut in half. Definitely a more than my jobs worth situation.

Also you can't really give them away, because you would be supplying prescription drugs without a licence. Now I know that most smack heads aren't going to switch from heroin to get a hit out of enzo, but technically you would be down on the streets with the hoes, the pimps and the pushers. Though if your grand kids play GTA you would gain quite a lot of credibility with them.

Just such a shame as they are still sealed in the box. Might as well hang on to them for awhile in case he gets switched back but that’s probably not going to happen.

Yes hanging on to them makes most sense.

Sadly you should take them back to the hospital pharmacy. That was what I was told to do by my Oncologist.

Hi

I know it's criminal,I remember the time I had dozens of dressings and nephrostomy bags unused,I had to throw them away!!!what a waste.NHS cut treatment options yet waste in other areas!!very frustrating.

I agree there is a lot of waste. Following my prostatectomy. I've got several boxes of XXL condoms gathering dust.

I am only kidding, so I don't want any PMs from any bargain hunting, 'big boys.' 😁

Joking apart, I had a huge stock pile of Sildenafil which I had to flush away. There were that many, I'm surprised that they didn't straighten out the U-bend.

Do you mind me asking what his side effects were? My husband has been on Enzalutamide since November last year and has dreadful restless legs which keep him awake a lot and he's getting up to pee almost every hour sometimes... he also gets a lot of joint and muscle pain which we think is possibly down to the meds along with a low mood which is not him at all. He had an x-ray recently and it showed moderate degenerative disease in his spine and hip but he's 66 so its probably not all down to the meds (hes also on Zoladex injections).  I hope your husband gets on better with the Aberaterone.

It was very high blood pressure and a really nasty skin rash. He is still waiting for the Abiraterone. He has chased it twice. We were at the hospital today for him to have a cardioversion to fix his atrial fibrillation. That seems to have done the trick - one less thing to worry about! I tried to track down his prescription to no avail. Fingers crossed he can start the Abariterone soon. He is on Goserelin implants as well - another injection tomorrow. 3 medical visits this week poor man 😥
