Menu suggestions during RT

User

So RT starts next week and I am already struggling to find menus of what to eat in preparation for and during the treatment. I have the list of what to avoid but I haven't found a list of recipes anywhere

Does anyone have any (tasty) suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

We were told not to change diet unless we got any symptoms requiring this. You want to try and maintain same weight from the planning scan through to end of the radiotherapy, so your prostate isn't changing position. One guy who was losing weight was told to go and eat some cakes!

Steve ,seems we all get told what not to eat. The following might be useful, although your own hospital should take priority over our advice. I am not sure rice Krispies are classed as tasty 🙂.

I didn't stick rigidly to the foods to avoid list and found I got by okay. Do it in moderation and see how things go for you. Just don't go mad on the farty stuff. I even went out for a curry but stuck to a mild one.

I was told at my planning scan just to eat my normal diet as they didn’t want anything upsetting my digestion whilst going through RT. I did however avoid curries on nights before treatment as I didn’t want to do the ‘Walk of Shame’🤣🤣🤣

As above, told to crack on and eat normally. Common sense to avoid curry and green veg night before RT. Still drink red wine every night, but then drink a litre of water (as opposed to my normal tea) in the morning to make sure I’m hydrated, so that the 450ml of water 45 mins before RT goes straight to my bladder.

I also took my weight on the morning of the CT planning scan, and monitor it during RT.

Thanks all - that helps a lot. Mind you, a bit of weight loss wouldn't hurt LOL

Let's see what next week brings as I introduce myself to yet another piece of very expensive machinery :)

I agree with what has been said but some people find that RT induces 'the runs' while others tend to become constipated. Both situations one hopes to avoid. Minor adjustments to diet can help if one swings away from norm but other than avoiding gas producing food and ensuring you drink sufficient fluid, starting with your normal diet seems sensible. Also, try to keep doing your normal amount of exercise if possible.

There seems to be differing information of what to eat /not eat. I'm just about to start week 4 of 7 of my Salvage RT treatment. I was advised to just avoid eating the brassica's ie broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts etc and dried fruit.

I have very largely carried on eating and drinking normally. On just one occasion I have been asked could I expel wind but without emptying my bladder – that was a challenge. What I do now is when asked to drink water I go to the toilet to empty my bladder and my bowels of any wind. Seems to have done the trick.

We are all different in our own way, so its finding what works/doesn’t work for us. good luck.

This reminded me of the ‘walk of shame’ round the hospital grounds trying to fart without peeing myself🤣🤣🤣Needless to say it didn’t work so they gave me another enema to take, but the very sight of it got me rushing to the toilet to let out a ‘Big one’ along with the contents of my bladder, so back to square one and more water.😩

it only happened once thank goodness!
