Just a quick one this time -
I was recently at a support group meeting and had to almost laugh. One chap said he had got a hernia some time after his RP and then one by one about 18 others did, i.e., the majority of the people having PRs who were present. A friend - who I know is also very careful - had two hernias. He said he was very careful NOT to left anything remotely heavy for at least six weeks after his operation. As I know and trust him I do believe what he says. He feels that element in reality really has little to do with it. It is simply a weakening of the system.
I've tried to find materials showing the percentages of study groups in this regard recently and sadly have not had much luck.
I had my RP on 27th March. Happily I am doing very well. Five weeks today after removal of the catheter I am pad free, fully continent and even the dreaded ED has shown very promising signs of an effective - if not total (YET!!) - return. I am hugely grateful.
I'm just wondering now if I should resign myself to a hernia. I, too, have been very careful NOT to lift anything of any note and have certainly been doing nothing that I think would in any meaningful way be a physical challenge. I will be travelling for work at the very end of this month - so will have to deal with a small case on wheels for my personal effects - (by that point it will be three months post op) - but that will be a first. Up to now I've had - and will, until then, continue to have - a neighbour do all my shopping.
I wonder if there is anyone on here who has survived long term post RP and NOT had a hernia. Would love to hear tell.
Much thanks as ever for your kind consideration.
