Stopping AS

User

So, after only a very small rise in PSA this time, but a fourth consecutive rise nonetheless, I am now being referred for RARP.

Long conversation with my Urologist earlier, who agreed that whilst I could wait another 3 months if I chose to do so, I was almost certainly just delaying the inevitable.

A bit daunting, but also a bit of a relief in some ways.

I’m lucky enough to have private healthcare, so am hoping it won’t be long before I can get this sorted. It’s all in my other thread, but a brief recap for newcomers:

Diagnosed last August, T2, 3+4=7

Bilateral disease, 11 cores from 20 positive.

max tumour length 11mm.

PSA up from 5.2 to 8 currently.

Onwards and upwards 👍

As you know mate my AS failed as well, and I can feel your disappointment. I hope your treatment goes well and you make a speedy and full recovery.

Best of luck pal.

Best of luck.

Recommend finding a high volume surgeon with stats to support it plus top rated location and Da Vinci robot tech. Guys Cancer Centre (London Bridge) are using the Da Vinci Single Port now which is very cool. NeuroSAFE is also prudent as adds visibility and thus additional reassurance that everything is done while you are open on the table.

I didn’t check the review stats as they often don’t tell the whole story. Asking face to face works well and facilitates drilling into the details.

My surgeon was very down to earth. His background spoke for itself as he is very well known and a documented pioneer in the field. He was like Commander Data (Star Trek) with unprecedented knowledge and very evident passion for his subject I could immediately connect with.

Those field stats and breadth of real world experience definitely matter as you say. During surgery my PCa was more advanced than shown in scans/biopsy but it didn’t phase him and he resected additional tissue (NeuroSAFE feedback) plus adapted the surgical approach to accommodate a more extensive bladder neck reconstruction ðŸ˜ĩ‍ðŸ’ŦðŸĪŠ

I'd still check his shoes, Ian. You can tell a lot about a man if he takes care of his shoes. You'll know that having been in the Army. 😁

From my limited research (I'm 2 weeks into AS with Gleason 6). If you need it removing, it certainly sounds like it's well above "Gold Standard". Very best wishes with everything fella.

I think they've stopped publishing the track record of urology surgeons now. You used to be able to research them a bit like trip advisor 🙂

When I first met my surgeon, I was impressed with him. I had  made a list of over twenty questions I had for him, by the time he'd finished his introduction, he'd answered most of them. He was confident and forthright. Plus he was neat and tidy and had freshly polished shoes. 🙂 You'll do for me mate, I thought.

It's only now that I've come to realise how crucial the surgeon is. Their skill has a huge bearing on your quality of life.

I'm very fortunate in that I'm being referred to a top surgeon at a clinic in central London. I obviously can't mention his name on here, so I'll just call him Prof. but he is very well respected.

MRI appt through already, for Saturday morning. Thought I'd be waiting a week or two for that. Let's see what my newly acquired little friends have been doing for the last year....

Well things are certainly moving fast now. I had a call earlier from the clinic in London. They have received my referral and I have an appointment with the prof on Monday afternoon!
