Tadalafil prescription

Hi,

Apologies if the answer to this question is buried deep in the conversation archive but I couldn't find it readily using the Search button, so I've started a new conversation.

I had my RALP op just over three weeks ago and I'm aware that my supply of Tadalafil 5mg tablets which the hospital provided is nearing its end.

How do I get a prescription for more of these? Via the hospital or via my local GP? I want to give myself whatever chance I can to recover and I understand that taking this low dosage once a day can be very helpful so I don't want it to come to an abrupt end next week!

Thanks for whatever advice/experience can be offered.

Not too early.

Some surgeons now start the low dose Tadalafil a couple of weeks before the operation.

Hi,

To add onto the above comment about online private pharmacies I have used and know they are legit are:

https://www.oxfordonlinepharmacy.co.uk/erectile-dysfunction/tadalafil-tablets

https://hightownpharmacy.co.uk/products/tadalafil-tablets

https://doctorfox.co.uk

and Superdrug before (though these are really expensive so I would recommend the above over them, but they are useful that you can collect the same day)

Hopefully you get sorted and you don't need to resort going privately.

Kind regards

Hi,

You have to be proactive in your journey with PCa to ensure you get what you need to make the best possible recovery. It’s good that your GP has prescribed Tadalafil for you.

You should also try and get prescribed a vacuum pump to help keep things in good order, although you should consult your CNS or surgeon about when to start using it.

Onwards and Upwards🤞

Derek

You could ask your GP, but you might have more success asking the hospital. They will probably write to your GP asking for them to be prescribed, which might be more effective than you asking your GP.

If you draw a blank with the GP, there are online NHS pharmacies which will provide them if you say you have ED - they have a doctor who will write the prescription. You will have to pay for the tablets, but they aren't expensive providing you avoid the Cialis brand. Do beware that these are some of the most commonly counterfeited drugs though, so I would make sure you use an NHS online pharmacy, even though you are buying privately.

Hi,

I think it's worth contacting your urologist's secretary first and then try your GP.

In my case, I was only prescribed a month's supply at first, and it was only put on repeat prescription after my urologist wrote to my GP. I was given the runaround at first but persistence paid off.

Hopefully you have a smoother ride than I did. I think it's important not to be fobbed off.

Good luck.

Kev.

Thanks for the advice, Kev - I will go down that route.

I'll let you know how I get on !

Thanks Andy - it looks like you and Kev who also replied had some success going initially down the hospital route first.

Thanks for the advice about the NHS online pharmacies - that will definitely be my back up Plan B.

Did they send you home with a supply then mate? I had my op around the same time as you, and there was no mention of any kind of ED assistance yet. I just assumed it was too early and that they would talk about hat at some point later?

I've got a follow up appt on the 22nd, so maybe I'll raise it then (excuse the poor pun).

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for your reply and pun appreciated/forgiven!

I wasn't necessarily expecting to have the Tadalafil tablets in my discharge pack from the hospital pharmacy, as I wasn't sure how nerve sparing had happened. Regardless, I just got on with taking them and whilst I can't say any erections have taken place, I can feel some activity down there! Maybe it's my imagination, who knows?

Hence posting my question about getting a repeat prescription. My (telephone) follow up with Urology has been booked for 17/9, so I'll certainly ask them more then as well but, thanks to the advice from Kev and Andy,  I've just emailed the consultant's secretary to ask if he can contact the GP.

Good luck with your recovery and hope the Tadalafil works for you when you get it! Keep us in touch with your progress..

Hi,

Thanks for the info on trustworthy online pharmacies - very useful!!

To update on my experience, after receiving no response initially to my email, I phoned the Urolology medical secretary at the hospital and she advised that I should contact my GP for a Tadalafil prescription.

My GP - who has been very supportive throughout my prostate "journey" - was understanding and without any hesitation added Tadalafil to my regular repeat prescription.

My post op follow up (telephone) meeting with the Consultant was unfortunately postponed until mid October, so I won't get his opinion on how likely an improvement Tadalafil might offer in my case. From my point of view, two months after the op, the jury is out at the minute on whether I have a lively imagination or if there is any improvement. So, I'll keep taking the tablets !!

Thanks Derek - will get on the case, I'm sure the pump will be involved somewhere on this journey!
