Swollen testicle 8 weeks post RARP

I am now 8 weeks after RARP, taking 5mg Tadalifil. Immediately after operation I had some swelling in testicle but this was considered normal. I progressed well, and am now back walking 13,000 steps, although minor leakage and full ED. A few days ago I sprained my groin area, and it was accompanied by my right testee swelling up to 3 times. Not massively painful, but very sensitive and uncomfortable. My surgeon said the sprain and swelling are likely unrelated and puts the swelling down to a late post-op infection. He prescribed co-amoxiclav (penicillin) antibiotic for 14 days. That was 2 days ago and the swelling has not abated. My questions are:

- has anyone else had swelling so far into a successful RARP

- does Tadalifill impact swelling (online search says no)

- should I be thinking of other causes, as swelling has not yet gone down. Maybe I am too impatient :)

thank you, wonderful community!

Hi Robert.

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad that you are making a good and speedy recovery from RARP.

I had exactly the same testicular problem,  a month prior to RARP. My GP thought it was a torsion and sent me to A&E. They called out an urologist who initially was considering emergency surgery to remove the swollen ball. He even tried to convince me that losing one would aid my prostate cancer treatment.

Anyway, eventually he changed his mind and gave me some antibiotics, which in a few days, fixed the problem.

I'm glad I kept the matching pair.

Best of luck mate.

I would have to say that 8 weeks after RARP you are seriously overdoing things.

The fact that you had a groin strain this early shows that you really need to slow down and rest more.

There is a reason that they say that it takes 8-12 weeks to recuperate and that means light walking, and no lifting.

You have had serious abdominal surgery that might only be 5 small holes on the outside but major cutting and slicing inside.

I agree. Well said. The thing that worries me is the swollen testicle. The consultant said they were not connected. Hopefully it only an infection. I need to be more patient

Given the antibiotics haven't worked, I would be concerned about the possibility of a compromised blood supply, which is a medical emergency. Did the surgeon do an ultrasound? I would call 111, or go to A&E.

Thanks Andy. I started the antibiotics on Thurs. Swelling is not increasing, so maybe stabilised. Still radius is x3 normal. Not as painful as it sounds luckily. If it has. It started going down tomorrow I will likely call the Specialist Nurse or my GP. No ultrasound was done during the last consultation.
