Decapeptyl second injection

Morning all,

Im just coming up to my second (of three) decapeptyl injections. So far, after three months, it’s the hot flushes especially at night that are the worst side effect. In fact I think they are the only side effect I could positively put down to the drugs.

My question is do the side effects get worse the longer you  are on Decapeptyl? Anybody have any experience of that?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick,

I have been on three-monthly Zoladex for 20 months now. I imagine the side effects of Decapeptyl are similar. The hot flushes are difficult to deal with, especially at night. The resulting lack of sleep doesn't help. From my experience, the hot flushes reach a peak after a few weeks and then don't get any worse. More recently, I have been put on Medroxyprogesterone. I took the Medroxy for about three months before I felt any relief. The flushes are still there, but less frequent and easier to cope with.

I find I can often pre-empt the hot flushes with an electric hand fan on my face and neck, but obviously this doesn't work when asleep. I have a large pedestal fan at the foot of my bed and a remote control under my pillow for nighttime relief. It's a help. I will be on HT for life.

Best wishes for successful treatment.

Thanks Hieronymus,

I like the sound of your gadgets. Must be like a wind tunnel at night. I hope you can learn to live with it.

I’m 2 months in to a 9 month spell of HT so unless things do get worse I’ll just live with it - not sure I want to take extra drugs. But we’ll see how things pan out.

Good luck,

Nick

Hi Nick I’ve been on Decapeptyl for 3 1/2 yrs now as I’m incurable. I think it’s a much kinder drug than some of the others. I get hot flushes but no big deal. Very little weight gain , no moobs , still have some libido. Worse effect is knackered knee joints , muscle loss , memory problems , brain fog etc. I think they have all accumulated over time. Good luck

I was on Prostap and suffered  hot flushes and sweats at night. I bought a step less motor small fan which I sit on my bedside cabinet. I turn it right down so there’s just a very gentle breeze….and it doesn’t stop my wife from getting to sleep as it’s very quiet. During the night if I need to I just turn it up a bit for a short time. I also find the gentle breeze acts as a white noise and helps me get to sleep.

Im finished Prostap now and the flushes are beginning to get less frequent and severe.

Thanks Derek. I’m sure my wife wouldn’t mind me saying but she joins me in the joy of hot flushes, being of that certain age. You can imagine the scene at night, duvet being flung between us every five minutes then comparing sweaty nighttime tales at breakfast. I think a fan sounds like a good idea!

Glad to hear the hot flushes are improving for you.

Nick
